Getting heavy into badminton now. Fecking loving it, too.

Not even considering runs atm. Might try a parkrun next month to see where I am. But at the minute it's all about hitting a feathery thing over a net

Very pleased to knock nearly a minute off my previous swim time.
Nice one G. Is the transition just a matter of how quick you can get your trainers on and some shorts over your speedos?

I just got back from doing the toughest fell race I've ever attempted at Turnslack near Littleborough. Jesus it was brutal. 9 miles with 3 shocking climbs. It was a medium category race which I entered as preparation for two long ones that are due in September and October. Right now I cant even think about them. My legs are just two concrete lumps of lactic acid right now.

Cheers. Having checked I have taken 2 minutes 13 off last year's race. Mainly in the swim.

HG the transition phase is however quickly you get out of the pool and ready to run. For this race we got out of the pool and WALKED the length of it to get to the changing area. I had a tri-suit on so just clipped on my number belt, slipped on my pre-talced, elastic laced trainers and my shades and I was off. Some people prefer t-shirts and shorts and socks before they run but, ultimately if you want a time you need to cut comforts.

I was first over the finish line but, as it was a staggered start I ended up finishing 17th out of 40

What do you about your lactic acid build up?

Oh the usual stretching and stuff and I have a monthly session at sports massage that seems to help. Going to get out and do 6 miles tonight just to try and loosen up before another fell race on Wednesday.

I noticed at Iron man yesterday a few running in tri suits but assumed they would have worn them under a wet suit for the swim? You wouldn't want to swim in Pennington Flash with just a tri suit would you?

No. Open water swims (above sprint tri distance) require wet suits. The tri suit is worn underneath.

We had our annual downloads running festival this weekend. 2 runs on the south downs. Harry should you ever fancy some hill running down Sussex way I recommend it! There's a 7 miler and for the hard core there's a 30 miler too. The guy who came first in the 30 miles completed it in 3 hours 52 which seems a pretty amazing time to me. Winner of the 7 miler was 45.22.

In other news, I am finally going on my first run in ages last night after last weeks run was aborted by the dog at deaths door. Reckon I'll manage a couple of miles then collapse.

Actually, amazingly, he seems to be on the mend. Am back to vets for a check up friday but if he was a cat i would say he had 9 lives. Not sure that there isn't a bigger issues with his kidneys that could mean the end long term, but the antibiotics seemed to have helped a lot. He can go for very slow walks now and is eating again. :)

Well done re the aquathlon. Theres life in 2 old dogs yet...

Do you do much work in training on improving your lactate threshold pace Harry? Our athletes have just finished 6 weeks of training designed to improve that and are now moving onto some speed endurance work. Be interesting to see if other clubs follow a roughly similar training schedule.

Our track and hill sessions are designed to improve pace and lactate thresholds as far as I'm aware but these are weekly sessions. I'd be interested to know the type of training they have done and how it differed from their normal speed endurance sessions.

Bit of a beggar in the summer really as nearly every Wednesday there's a race on so I tend to miss our Tuesday track sessions and Thursday hill sessions to give the races my best shot.

Mark, if you're interested PM me your email and i can forward you the training plan. Took the group today actually. Seem to be working with them more and the intermediates (teenagers) less. Not sure if i like that or not!

Went on a run! :D Was only just over a mile though, but felt ok considering i had just done 20 minutes of high jump practice after coaching the endurance group and put the bed and cover away (which is a strength session in itself...)

Will now sink into a nice cool bath... Ahhh...

As mentioned on another thread I find myself in Bolton on the 4th August. Anyone fancy doing the Park Run at Leverhulme Park? Bruce? HG? Caps? Anyone else?

Aye count me in. Especially if there is somewhere nearby we can get a bacon butty & a brew after :P

Felt a right numpty tonight. Set off to Parbold to do the 3rd in a 4 series fell race. Bag all packed, Mrs G & dog coming along for support then halfway there I realised I'd forgot my bloody trainers  Ended up in the pub for tea instead :pissed:

Ha Ha Ha! Schoolboy error. Much like a couple of weeks ago I turned up for my swim session without my trunks. Had to borrow some from lost property. Grim.

Don't know about butty and brew as I'm not exactly a local nowadays. Perhaps someone can help? Have you still got my 'phone number?

It's highly likely that, as I haven't seen that part of Bolton for 23 years, it may well have changed somewhat. Is what I meant.
