Him not being good enough for Liverpool's multi million ££ midfield shouldn't mean he's not going to be good enough for ours.

I understand the logic you're using but he's essentially a backup for a mid-table side and the general feeling I get from their supporters is that he's generally not very good at all. Would he do for us supposedly chasing promotion? Can't be sure but we'd not be signing a great player here.

From what I've seen I think he's a hothead and not an intelligent player. He gets stuck in though if that counts for anything!

Would give him a chance if he signed though of course

Liverpool are comparing him to the likes of Gerrard, Alonso and co. Of course he is crap in there eyes. For Bolton it think he could be good. No Holden but based from saturday much better then what we have.

Liverpool supporting mates can't wait to get shot of him either.
Can he run? Does he have any energy? Can he tackle? Does he get "involved"?

If so he'll be an improvement on what we have in the centre of midfield.
If he has a pulse and isnt a hologram he would be an improvement on what we have at present

Based on what we had Saturday, Dougie Holden would be better and he's 81.

I don't really rate Spearing but considering who he was under last season, I'm not going to completely write him off. Dalglish couldn't get Carroll, Henderson, Downing, Gerrard, Adam and others to do anything good, despite all of those players being impressive under different management. Carroll got goals at Newcastle, Henderson was good at Sunderland, Downing got the most assists in the EPL whilst at Villa, Gerrard has obviously been class throughout his career and Adam was far better under Holloway. It's certainly true to say that Spearing has never really performed in the Premier League but that could be his fault or it could be down to Dalglish, yet again, not knowing what to do with a player.

Aside from that, it's the Championship and even if he's not good enough for Liverpool, I don't think he's bad enough that he'll be poor in the second tier. He's not that bad and at least he puts plenty of effort in.

Iirc Spearing had a great loan spell at Blackpool the season before last and was lauded by their fans. OC was on the BBC earlier confirming our interest.

Isn't Connor a striker, and McEachran is a kid.

If Spearing is a midfielder I don't have a problem with him. I know his name so he must have a fair few minutes on the pitch for Liverpool.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

I agree the guy's a numpty, but this could be a good move if we pull it off and if you don't ask, you don't get.
Is Spearing a defensive midfield player?
Absolutely, spoke with a Reds season ticket holding friend and he said he's very much a defensive midfielder. I can confirm he is a defence minded midfield player and as for the comment about him not being big he's a solid terrier type from what I've seen
Pfffft.

If he can read the game well and can tackle then sign him up

Does't need to be black or big

Agreed, he only needs to read the game, break up play and distribute the ball to one of our players and I'd be happy with that
Pfffft.

I'd be happy enough with him. Energy and bite have been desperately lacking from our midfield, and have been, a small blip in autumn 2010, since 2006.

I'd still prefer a big black guy. But this little white guy wil do I suppose.

You are right but it just seems unrealistic to me - if liverpool dont want him they'll want to sell and he'll want premoership footie like he got last year. try and then move on.

its like you say - we just need a big black lad who runs around and kicks lumps out of people...cant be too hard to find! Coyle seems to.only know about young (overpriced) english, yanks, or players he's managed! Get a scouting network man!

At least we have got rid of the caravan on the car park at Aston Villa.
