Let us know how you get on.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:Start with something like this.

You can always skip ahead a few weeks if you find it easy.Gary the Enfield wrote:Annoyed Grunt wrote:How many 30 minute sessions?
Does it matter what speed you do?
The trick is to start slow. If you do too much too soon you WILL injure yourself. At the moment it's about time on your feet so build up until you can run for 30 mins without stopping. Your pace will come with it.
You would improve quicker with a group so look for a local running club that welcomes beginners.
If you're doing it yourself then download a programme from Runners World. You'll know yourself if it's too easy and you can skip ahead.
Also, register for Parkrun. It's a 5k race every Saturday morning in a number of parks in the UK. That will give you an idea of where you are in your peer group and set a marker for your training.Nice one, cheers people.CAPSLOCK wrote:2 or 3 a weekAnnoyed Grunt wrote:How many 30 minute sessions?

Re: The athletics/running thread
Hard session last night.
Not too much running (well, 1 mile to the park and 1 mile back to warm down)
Anyway, the session concentrated on the core. Starting 100m down a fairly steep garassy slope we first did 20 press ups followed by a sprint to the top and then jog back down. Times four.
Next set was Squat thrusts X 4
Then Planks X 4
Then squat jumps x 4
Then squat thrust into squat jumps X 4
This went on for about 30 minutes. We were then split into groups of three and we had a sprint relay where we (alternately) sprinted up and down the same hill. I counted 15 times before I was too tired to concentrate. About 10 minutes in total.
I haven't done this session before and my back, shoulders, quads and calves are aching today. And I'm starving!
Actually, saying I didn't run that far if you count all the 100 metres I did it comes to about 5k, so I actually ran about 8k overall including my warm up/ down.

That sounds a great session G. I really need to do some core stuff becuase apart from the occasional spell on the exercise bike I dont do owt other than running. Mrs G has been going to boot camp @ Leverhulme park a sort of BMF thing which seems to do similar work outs to the one you described. Going to have to get myself up there

Take it easy, though. My calves are in spasm and cramping like buggery tonight. Maybe too much too soon. :0/Harry Genshaw wrote:That sounds a great session G. Footy training tonight. Feel very virtuous. Have exercised 4 of the last 5 days. If i hadn't been busy having the micky taken out of me by GtE i may have even exercised Monday too (though i doubt it...)

Re: The athletics/running thread
Got a half marathon next week where I was hoping to do sub 1.40 but haven't got out much this last fortnight, so not sure I've done enough. Managed 12 today but it was pretty tough. Off to Birmingham tomorrow for the Diamond league meeting - hoping for a bit of inspiration from Mo et al

Did 10k yesterday. Wow, holidays have taken the edge off massively! 56mins. Jeebus. Wake-up call anyway. Smoke less, drink less, eat better, get out more.

Re: The athletics/running thread
no - but then I didn't pretend to like athletics for the period of the olympics - then lose all interest (in the same medal-winning athletes) afterwards!!!Gooner Girl wrote:So you will be glued to the telly watching all afternoon will you?!thebish wrote:or get ur priorities right and just record the ace sport that is athletics???Gooner Girl wrote:oh pants, i am recording and watching the Arsenal game then as am playing football between 2-3.
