The oldie video thread

Post by Verbal » Mon Aug 27, 2012 11:24 am

Following on from the post of the Bolton/Oldham game in t'other thread, as well as a thread from years ago where I posted highlights of Bolton v Sunderland in 1974 (or 5? Idk), and the recent one with the entire game between Belgrade and us, I thought we should collate these into a single thread. Here we can share memories, laughs, or berate the OP's laziness for essentially just copy and pasting from youtube. You decide.

Anyway, let's go all Pathe newsreel and start back in 1954, with a 4th round cup tie away at the mighty Headington United. Some proper Cholmondey-Warner stuff.

Next is a bit of a thumping at Boro in 69

This is a repost of the Oldham match in 1976, featuring probably the worst scoring penalty I've ever seen courtesy of Paul Jones. It was about a yard from the keeper ffs!

Swindon v Bolton now in 1989. The longest running tie in English cup competitions, or so it says

Still in 1989 and this time it's a trip to Bristol Rovers. Were any of you there? If so is this the 'Twerton Park' currently the home of Bath City?

Another late 80s match against Bury. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh0Dvkll ... re=related" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And now finally an FA Cup tie featuring Bolton and Blackpool. Yes I'm sure you all know it...the 1989 first round tie.

Any more vids? Thoughts? Memories?

Went to all 4 of those Swindon games in the league cup. Funnily enough, the away games coincided with a hospital appointment and a sickie. :wink:

It is the same Twerton Park that Bath City play at. Rovers moved in with them when they left Eastville, their own ground at the time. If memory serves me correct we played there twice, both of which I went to, one being on a Sunday?? I think our future 'marksman' the lithe 'Tricky' Trevor Morgan scored in one of them.

I prefer this game against Swindon from 1995!

Was that the Blackpool game when a winter called Matthews starred for them, to predictable meeja circle-jerking? At least they hadn't crippled one of our key players to achieve it...

Yes. Neil Matthews iirc. For that reason and that reason alone, I can't watch that video. The novelty of being on MOTD soon wore off.
