Re: Andy Walker
I think footballs different now. in 96/97 you could chuck a 442 out andthe players we had were (1) better than everyone elses; and (2) a good unit, fought for each other. My view (though norm did post a good counter the other day) is that organisation and tactics count for a lot at this level. I dont think a 96/97 is possible anymore.
Id be happy with an organised team, players in the right position, and playing to its potential. We should be using our premiership facilities to the maximum as well - so using the video room to prepare for matches, study opponents...not making dvds to send to the fa.

Re: Andy Walker
Look at the leaders we had in that team though, Branagan, Fairclough, Taggart, Pollock, Frandsen, McGinlay.
Not only could they all play, they brought the best out of the others like Blake and Sellars (who was absolutely magnificent that season).
Now we've just got a team of hiders, no leadership.
On a side note, those saying Todd mixed it up in our first Prem season, he also picked Curcic and Sellars as a midfield against the filth. I'd rather forget the consequences.

I think people criticise Todd a little too easily with regards to 97/98 as well - don't forget we were effectively a bent refereeing decision away from staying up that year, and who knows how things might have panned out thereafter.

My thoughts exactly. The first season we stayed up with Sam was a close run thing too, but gave us a launch pad to progress.Leyther_Matt wrote:Think you're definitely on to summat there. The second season under Sam was an even closer run thing. We only really came good the third season in.midlands exile wrote:My thoughts exactly.
