"I'm the driver of this ship," said Freedman. "I will drive it through commitment, effort, desire and honesty. Lennie Lawrence will steer it.
"He's managed over 1,000 games, he's won promotions and managed at the top level. He's a very experienced man."
The 38-year-old Scot told BBC Radio Manchester: "He will help this club tremendously, on and off the field, hence the reason I tried to get him here.

Same Lee and Phillips who have just masterminded us to 6 goals shipped in 3 games?Relentless09 wrote:Coyle IMO would have benefited from having Lee and Philips being more involved in the first team. It was clear that since FA Cup semi final there has been something wrong, a change of back room staff may have helped Coyle but anyway that's in the past, good luck to Freedman and Lawrence
Douggie needs his man in. Lee is a proven coach; Phillips is currently proven in the academy. Things need to change, massively. Let them get on with it.
And yes; Coyle needed a Lawrence type figure over a yes man like Stewart and the other joker.

The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
Re: Lennie Lawrence
We have gone all nautical then, I like it.
Freedman is in charge of driving so that must equate to power and the engines so he is the engineer.
Lawrence is steering the ship so he is the Helmsman.
I see that the ship HMS Beaver, that Bolton was affiliated with was decommissioned in 1999.

When oi was in the navy, the adopted ship of Bolton was HMS Dido and Farnworth Sea Cadets was first TS Emerald and then TS Fife so we've had quite a connection with the RN over the years, and the Army too, part of the Loyal Regiment being based at the drill hall in Farnworth after their return from Korea. Oh, and you do steer a ship. Driving is deffo landlubberish gay.

Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.

Wasn't The Rec off of St George's Rd also known as HMS something or other? Or whatever a building's equivalent title is?

This is great news. I do remember lawrence as the man who got charlton into the big time. He is a knowledgeable steady hand( no doubt hence the steering analogy) Freedman clearly sees it as a partnership. Refreshing after the egoentric nonsense of the previous manager.

I like Lennie Lawrence. Decent manager. Decent no 2. Always struck me as a decent guy. The kind of person a young ambitious manager needs on board...
back to the sailing metaphors by accident...
