Re: What are you playing tonight?
Closed my eyes and picked a random one out of a mahoosive box of CDs that I still haven't unpacked from when I moved nearly two years ago
However - RESULT!! Haven't heard this in years which is, quite frankly, fecking inexcusable!

Re: What are you playing tonight?
In fact, I have a theory, which is mine, that some groups/people put out an unbetterable album & should just stop. Anything after it may be OK, good even, but what's the point ?
I know this theory is bllx .... but here you go.
U2 - Joshua Tree
The Who - Who's Next
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Waters
Paul Simon - Gracelands
Wishbone Ash - Argus
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Oh, I'm aware you'll say other decent stuff which followed ... & you'll be right, but really, this was what really counted.

You can add
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland.
Ahhh just realised, that, technically speaking, he did kinda stop at that point. Hmmmm.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
My first response was "bollocks!" but on further inspection, with these bands anyway, it holds up. It's incredible how long ago The Rolling Stones released something great.bobo the clown wrote:In fact, I have a theory, which is mine, that some groups/people put out an unbetterable album & should just stop. Except for Paul Simon. Rhythm of the Saints is up to the task I think. Graceland is unbetterable but Rhythm was worth releasing/hearing.

The other was a solo album.
It's not especially complicated.

But it starts getting complex when talking about Neil Young and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Buffalo Springfield and Young and Stills... then it gets incredibly complex.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
but, of all those incarnations, there was only really Deja Vu and Harvest which really, truly, hit the spot.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:But it starts getting complex when talking about Neil Young and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Buffalo Springfield and Young and Stills... then it gets incredibly complex.
Other stuff has been good but not show stopping.
Anyway, you're just being awkward now !
Thinking of another, Paul McCartney, in all his post 1970 work, only REALLY did the biz with Band on the Run. He'd have saved us all a great deal of angst & embarrassment if he'd stopped then.

Admittedly I was being awkward. However, I think Zuma was his (NY not PMc) apogee and therefore just maybe (apart from Hendrix) there might be others that could be challenged (although not by me) in your list.bobo the clown wrote:but, of all those incarnations, there was only really Deja Vu and Harvest which really, truly, hit the spot.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:But it starts getting complex when talking about Neil Young and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Buffalo Springfield and Young and Stills... then it gets incredibly complex.
