Appears you can if you download the relevant app/s depending upon your printer.....

What's the name of that mobile phone provider that's really cheap?

I think it's associated with O2 but you have to do everything online ie no customer service.

I'm going to be in the market for a new laptop soon and was wondering if anyone has used Windows 8 yet? Not interested in tablets/phones/touch screen nonsense. Just a proper old fashioned laptop for normal home use plus a bit of HTML/web design type stuff. Lots of the laptops seem to have this new fangled Windows 8 and I don't want to subject myself to it as I suffered enough with Vista

I've an old flip screen laptop which I upgraded to win 8. The new stuff is all bells and whistles, it's just basically windows 7 SP2 with a full screen start menu & live tiles. If you used/seen a windows phone or a live-connected xbox you'll be used to it. Really like it, it feels like they're finally heading in the right direction particularly with the full skydrive integration although tbf, I'm a windows fan/geek anyway.

Thing is though, moving forward everything appwise is going touchscreen so you're going to want to take that into consideration.

Alternatively, can you not do what you want to do with a Chromebook?

Thanks Hoss. Not a big Chrome fan, so either Windows 7 or 8. I played around on a Windows phone about a year ago. Was ok but I'm a long time Android user, so wasn't that interested. As Windows 8 isn't a Vista style disaster I wont let it put me off and just go with whichever gives me most bang for the dirham.

It is supposed to do away with the need for different OS for phones, tablets and PC and is a replacement for 7. I get the feeling it is more orientated for mobiles and tablets, but lots of laptops have it on now. The choice here is much more limited, so wanted to know if I needed to avoid.

I think soon laptops will be a thing of the past. In the way we know them anyway. They will be tablets that you can attach a keyboard and mouse to and stand up.

In fact desktops will go the same way.

Yeah but it'll move that way. Spoke to someone in Microsoft who said that is the "vision" currently.

And to have enterprises on thin client systems with "desktops you can walk round with".

End of the day there will always be the workhouse towers, but way its going the average users won't need them at work or home......
