What you doing on the 21st?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Is it like Nando's ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

July for me. Already planning to go to Chichen Itza. Can't wait.

I'm wondering how it stacks against the Pyramids.
Why July, Worthy? It's hot (c. 34 C.), humid and entering the rainy season. I suppose it is off-season so the prices may be better, but you'd better take a sunhat and buy lots of bottled water. Have fun anyway! :oyea:

Missus will be delighted if it's hot. Humid and rainy a bit of a risk, nothing to do with prices - it's high price for UK as it's (most importantly) School Holidays.

I'm not sure how much heat the Missus has been exposed to in the past (I refer to temperature here of course) but once it gets to the mid-30s with high humidity it drains you. In fact a heavy downpour is a good thing. If you are staying near the sea that is also good. Funny it is high season for you - in Mexico December and January are high season and July/August the cheapest as a rule. Are you going to an all-inclusive?

Staying at a Beach Hotel which is All-inc. Missus and I have experienced Florida in rainy/humid season (and I spent a fair time working over in Houston). But yes it can be quite draining. :-)

You'll be fine near the sea with the beach bar and the pool bar! Just need to pick the right day to climb pyramids. Mad dogs and all that!

I don't think you're allowed to climb on it anymore, Worthy. When I went in 2001 we were told that it'd be the last year it'd be allowed. Still didn't get me up the 4ucker, mind. ;)

You can't climb Chichen Itza though there are others in the area you can.

When you see the width and height of the steps though you probably would think twice. Not an easy feat.

Apparently several tourists have died falling from them in the past!

I'm absolutely dreadful with heights so there's no way I would anyway. Yeah, it was the one at Chichen Itza. Folk inching down on their arses, clinging on to a length of rope for dear life itself? No thanks. Also visited Tulum, which, whilst impresive, I have less memory (and photographs) of as Chichen Itza really had blown my mind.

I guess when you say Chichen Itza you are referring to the El Castillo pyramid. Chichen Itza itself being a city with many other buildings and remains. The Temple of the warriors is quite impressive too. I wasn't aware you could not longer climb - still apparently no loss.

Yes sorry that is what I meant.

I think you can ciimb the pyramid at Coba still. I don't think I'd want to though...

Yes it is a fine very impressive site and one I try to get to on my holidays there; however what is more mind blowing is that Chichen Itza in the scheme of Mayan cities is a relatively small ordinary settlement built towards the end of their civilisation in the late to post classic era.

In an era that extended from 2000 BC to 1200 AD many massive cities where established over what are now the modern regions of Yucatan area of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Northern Honduras.

Tikal, Calakmul and El Mirador were in comparison akin to London and Paris and New York to the Doncaster of Chichen Itza. It is estimated that each of these centres may have supported populations of up to 100,000 which is impressive given their remote locations and especially in the case of Tikal which had no water resource other than that collected from rainwater and stored in reservoirs. The La Danta complex pyramid structure in El Mirador had a height of 70 metres and was built on a man-made platform of 18,000 square metres. El Mirador is only recently being exposed due to its remote location. Archaeologists believe that there may be more cities that are buried beneath the thick jungle of this region.

I could go on about these all day…a bit of an interest of mine!

It's only the end of the world for the Mayans - when they heard Worthy was going to Chichen Itza the few remaining Mayans just gave up.
