Pretend I didn't. :-)

Don't get me wrong Bobo, I don't mind Apple at all, they make some pretty good stuff, but you're paying for the Brand. I'd certainly prefer them to say Microsoft, but let's not kid ourselves that a) they're that much different to MS as a business anymore or b) they have some sort of technical leadership of the tablet market. What they have is a loyal following of brand customers, who they currently know will happily pay a premium - and market share - which is being eroded.

This. And they make products that even idiots can use without reading manuals.

Folk know how apple stuff works. Its intuitive. The average person wants to turn it on and be able to do everything they need to without referring to google or a manual.

Apple stuff generally works like that.

I know they've not go exclusivity on usability but generally I think they have that as an advantage.

I'd be quite surprised if the Android native tablets didn't also switch on pretty much out of the box too. Mine was different because it wasn't Android native, but all I had to do was switch on connect to wifi and put my E-mail address in, within it's native OS.

You're generally only configuring wifi/e-mail with either, I think. :-)

No one's yet been able to tell me why I'd stump up 200 quid more, from any other angle than "I prefer it" which is fine if you want to pay for that, your privilege. :-)

You focus a lot on the "idiots can use them" angle. I think you might be on to something there....

I find ipads less intuitive than Android tabs. Why? Because I'm used to Android. I have had Android phones for years so it is what I'm used to. If you're used to iphone/ipad you'll likely find them more intuitive. A few years ago I think ipads probably were better. These days Android has come a long way and I don't think there is much difference except the walled garden...and Apple Maps

don't be ridiculous - you are more than capable of understanding quite complex things - and more than capable of looking up a "how to do it" site on the internet.

don't come the "poor thicko me" routine - you have already outed yourself as a very capable thinker! 8)
Ha, I know you're not seriously accusing me of having a low opinion of my own intellect, but you will see below that Worthy has rightly picked me up for confusing 'memory' and 'storage'.

Basically I'm not really interested in learning about computing and am happy to pay a small premium to avoid doing so.

See I don't agree with any of that.
We bought the boy an iPod touch a couple of Christmases ago and I went to set it all up before hand, stick a bit of music on it, download a few free apps and games that sort of thing.

Now, glossing over the massivly unfriendly, unintuitive, unusable by the average person monster that iTunes is, I've got the music on there after only jumping through a few hoops. Fairy nuff.

But could I get any free apps installed? Could I buggery. I'd select one, click buy and nothing would happen. No download, no install, no error message, nothing. Search the net for answers, still nothing. Leave it for a few hours in case the servers were down or something, still nothing.

Eventually, after much screaming, crying, huffing and blowing and on the verge of smashing the fcking thing up the answer is staring me right in the face....

You 'buy' apps, even the free ones, and you have to have the payment facility setup before you can buy them. Seems obvious but it really isn't. So why didn't it simply inform me of the problem when I clicked buy, or insist on setting up payment on first use? That sort of crap is what upsets folk about Apple, and it's why they're not products the average user can use without reading the manual. The thought of my Dad owning one for example; who lets face it, still struggles with the tv remote scares the living shite out of me.

Oh, there is a definite [sic  ] right and wrong whatever google may have told you. Try googling instead 'bare/bear' without the 'I can't'. You should get pretty clear answers. As a general rule use bare if you mean unclothed and bear for pretty much everything else. In the above post you were using bear in the sense of carrying a burden (in this case a thought) so the verb is bear, bearing, born, while baring your breast would be bare, baring, bared. Of course, only context can distinguish between bearskin and bare skin.

Three pages of whether Apple is the dog's bollox or not!
Apple is not the dog's bollox - none of them are.
Not until your computer/tablet/phone/whatever can fit inside your head seemlessly and just transfer thoughts instantly into action and automatically backs up eveything instantly and revive you when you're dead if you want that and can wake you up in the morning without you wanting to throw the fxckin thing across the room, not until then will any of these things be 'good'. They're all shite, but some of you have been sucked in by advertising into thinking you've got exactly what you need.

Wrong, we've been 'sucked' into thinking we're buying exactly what we want. Which is why we buy them. If I didn't want one, I wouldn't buy one. What makes you assume that people who purchase technologies are somehow duped and not able to think for themselves?

I find people's constant criticism of other people choice of purchase both baffling and downright irritating

in what ways are other tablets so unintuitive that you have to read manuals or refer to google?? you keep saying this - but are the other tablets really the complex nightmare you really portray them as???

Any of you know what a UltraVNC Viewer is? Is that the thing that lets me connect with the company server or something more sinister?

It is for remote control sessions I think. You know, like when the IT geeks take over your PC and click on shit to make it better. This is usually after telling you to reboot it several times, unplug it and other useless shite.
