Cut all the bullshit, lets get real!

Post by Enoch » Sat Dec 29, 2012 7:58 pm

I feel for football managers, contractually obliged to give two or three press conferences a week, when most of them wouldn't give any out of choice. Constantly searching for platitudes to satisfy the mind numbing questions they're asked by pricks that couldn't do a proper job.

I'll have a go at Freedman's interview in a world where brutal honesty was the only option:

Media prick:

Two weeks into the new job Doooogiee, how's it looking?

Dougie Freedman:

F*ck me! What a shambles! I can't believe how badly this f*cking place has been run.

There's so many people walking about with feck all to do and most of the one's that have a job can't or won't fecking well do it!

As for the playing staff! What a bunch of tossers. Apart from a handful of the senior squad and half a dozen of the young lads that have been given f*ck all help, I'd bin the f*ucking lot of 'em, wankers!

Media prick:

So are you regretting the move from Palace Doooooogie?

Dougie Freedman:

Don't talk like a c*nt! Holloway's welcome to it. If they manage to get up they're only coming straight back down, they're a two bob club.

Bolton's a proper club, it might be a shower of shit for now, but by the time I've finished putting it in order, we're a Premiership club and that's where we'll be.

Media prick:

So do you see yourself staying at the Reebok into retirement Dooooogie?

Dougie Freedman:

None of your business you nosey c*nt! Now feck off you weasel and let me get on, I've got shit loads to do.

Unlike the constant quoting of things said in press conferences on other threads, as if they mean something. Which of couse is completely worthwhile.

Bolton's a proper club, it might be a shower of shit for now, but by the time I've finished putting it in order, we're a Barclay's Premiership club and that's where we'll be in the Barclay's Premiership cos the Barclay's Premiership is the BIGGEST club in the world ask yon Owen Coyle.[/quote]

Freedman wouldn't say that.

He doesn't have the same deal in place that Owen had. Not yet anyway. Give it time. :)

Three hundred and twenty five views and not a single worthwhile comment.

That tells a story.

not really.. b/c it looks made up.

it'd be a front page news story on mannyroad.com though, to go next to that "bolton wanderers endorse the use of landmines" bollocks.

I assume Enoch is making the point that listening to interviews or reading the rags is fairly pointless if you are looking for honesty. It is a valid but fairly obvious point.

To my mind, what is far more interesting is the 'what if' scenario in which a football club manager such as DF tells the next press conference exactly how it is and refuses to play the game in the future. How much damage would that do if the club supported him and told the press to piss off if they didn't like it?

As bedwetter2 rightly has it, 'listening to interviews or reading the rags is fairly pointless if you are looking for honesty.' or truth. I see daily on the boards folk using something said in a press conference to justify an argument, or more often, beat the manager. Now that's what I call fantastically pointless.

The second theme is regard a more realistic view of where BWFC is today. If anyone believes that when Coyle was sacked the club was a well oiled machine, just waiting to be switched on, I suggest it wasn't. My view and I accept that's all it is, is that there was a lot to be done in order to rectify five years of drift and decline since BSA went on his way. For Freedman or anyone else to come out and say so would be counterproductive. I also feel the view that a manager should be able to work with what he's got and overnight produce something significantly different to what went before a tad simplistic.

A seperate point, which I may as well get off my chest is this. For the long term future of our club, I'm pleased that we have a manager that will organise and build the club from bottom to top, much as BSA did, rather than some loveble lad that can wring a bit out of the crowd we have and maybe even get us up, only to leave us in a worse mess next year.

All observations welcome. :)

Mmm, to paraphrase a well-known saying; BL3, the antidote to reasoned discussion on a forum.
