Right Dan, time for a serious big boy discussion now. Please can you enlighten me and everyone else why you would have Afobe over any of our other strikers?

He gives the ball away.. He hardly ever scores.. he cant hold the ball up.. he makes silly runs to nowhere.

Personally I don't think there is masses between KD, Afobe or NGog.

I haven't seen enough of Sordell to judge.

Afobe is certainly a bustling presence with a bit of pace. His touch is terrible, but he worries defenders when he runs at them. He hasn't had masses of game time, I don't think, but has bagged 2 or 3? Never going to be a prolific scorer and never IMO likely to be a top premiership player.

NGog is the most skillful and is "mobile" rather than quick. Has a good touch at times and others it lets him down. His finishing is hit and miss, but probably on balance the most "talented" all rounder we have. But he's not great in the air and like so many of our players is inconsistent and when he's bad, he's very very bad. Never going to be a prolific scorer.

Davies is still a handful at times, he has the most "know-how" in terms of leading the line holds the ball up better than anyone else and also wins more in the air than anyone else. He causes defenders problems. However, he's the slowest by some way, doesn't attack the box, doesn't attack crosses very much and at times his lack of pace allows teams to squeeze right up against us and leave us struggling. Never going to be a prolific scorer.

And for me the "never going to be......" line is the problem. We have three support strikers, but no goalscorer to pair them with and in all likelihood no midfield strong enough to support two strikers in a lot of games. Pick any of them up front and you will struggle for goals UNLESS the midfield and defence chip in and goals are shared around the team.

End of the day we went up last time with Holdsworth, a dependable (mostly) grafting support striker and Ricketts the goal machine at the time. Yes they rarely played together and shared starts but the fact was we had a matchwinner starting or coming off the bench and a bloke who would always bag a few but could get through the graft coming on or starting to lead the line when necessary.

I think for getting us up that was probably a better combination that what we had the season before where Holdsworth shared the time with Gudjohnsen, a far more talented all round player than Ricketts, but less explosive and probably in some ways less of a direct goal threat.

It's C. Davies... Not feckin' Cavies, or Cravies. FFS

A 26 year old from Barnsley? Dougie is in for a rough ride from the ESL "yoof" I suspect.

Or more accurately the BWFC Facebook account is!

f'cough.

Cavies.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
