Never! It's happened before and just takes a run or two to get back in the swing of things). It's just getting that first one done. Gonna sign up to the gym as well cos i prefer training in there. #athlete

Re: The athletics/running thread
Was telling GtE earlier i need to get back into swing of it too. So unmotivated. Once you stop its really ahrd to start again cos you (well, me) are so slow its depressing. I probably need to sign up for cross country or fun run league or something to give me a target.mrkint wrote:Never! Are you not with Haywards Heath any more? I always find running with others much more fun and motivating than going out on my own.

Yes, i am. But i coach when everyone else trains. My friend John is a coach too and occasionally we go out after coaching for a run, need to get back in the habit, but once a week isn;t really enough and its hard to get moivated to go out on my own. I need to organise another time to run with him.Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:Was telling GtE earlier i need to get back into swing of it too. So unmotivated. Do your lot only do track then? I thought you did cross country too. In which case you could run as you coach/ lead a session.Gooner Girl wrote:Yes, i am. But i coach when everyone else trains. It is hard to start again, I agree! My dad (never ran in his life) and my cousin (ditto) have signed up for the mancehster 10k, so i feel obliged to sign up for that one. Maybe you can organise a group of yous to sign up for something? Definitely helps having others around.
I've also now joined the virgin active next door to the office. That'll do a job.

Our club does everything. Track and field, road running and cross country.Gary the Enfield wrote:Do your lot only do track then? I thought you did cross country too. I mostly coach the teenagers who go out for a 'long' run, once, maybe twice a month. They don't go very far though.
Problem is over the next few weeks/months i'm going to have to spend a fair amount of time observing and mentoring two coaches doing their next coaching badge with the senior endurance group so that means running after rather then during the session which is ok, and i suppose with football training every week too will give me a basic amount of fitness but isn't ideal.

Sounds like you need to be a bit more selfish. Or fit some off road tyres to the twin's buggy.

My mate's got me a visitor's pass to go and have a session at that Helios Fitness place down on the Manny Road. Anyone know what it's like? Over busy? Full of tossers etc?
May the bridges I burn light your way

Re: The athletics/running thread
So true. My hardest runs are always the ones that I do on my own, both in getting out there and staying out. GG - even 1 or 2 sessions with the club would probably get you your mojo back and persuade you to go out on your own, when at the moment you just dont fancy it.Gary the Enfield wrote:Are you not with Haywards Heath any more? Re: The athletics/running thread
I usually take a group out on Thursdays. Recently I've been doing about 8 miles at 7m 30s pace. I usually get 7 to 10 people running with me. A comfortable number and one that's easy to keep together.
Tonight the guy who usually takes the 8m pace group couldn't make it so I deputised someone to take the faster group and volunteered myself to take the 8m/ mile. Some of the elite guys (and girls) who run 5k at sub 20 minutes decided to join me as they are racing on Saturday and wanted an easier run. Then the person deputised to take the 7m 30s runners didn't show so they joined me as well.
I ended up with 27 in the group! To their credit they pretty much stayed together and the faster runners looped back and picked up the slower ones until about the last 2 miles when I gave them final directions home.
We made quite a sight running down Barnet High Street.

Funnily enough I'm waiting to do a CIRF (Coaching in running fitness) course sometime in April.

Not done spinning but a lot of our runners use it when coming back from injury as it's low impact aerobic exercise.mrkint wrote:not exactly running, but did a spinning class today. god that is a killer. but brilliant though.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Have you already done the leadership in running fitness course then? or are they letting you go straight onto CIRF? CIRF is the course that I am mentoring a few of our coaches through at the moment who, like you, are endurance runners wanting to lead a session.Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:You should do your coaching badges! I did the LIRF two years ago. That's why I am allowed to take groups out. However it only covers the club in terms of insurance and I am in no way a coach. I plan a route, advise the group of the difficulty/ ease, make sure they are (individually) capable of doing the session, have adequate footwear and clothing (hi vis in Winter), count them out and count them back in.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Ahhh. From what i can see the CIRF one involes far more planning and leading of sessions? Its a bit more technical. Great for those that don't want/need to do the generic coaching awards and are working with adult road runners. Yell if you need a hand with anything but i'm sure you will be just fine. Am still waiting for them to roll out the equivalant of what was the UKA Level 4 award. Its been about 2 years in the new system now and they are still faffing with it.Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:Have you already done the leadership in running fitness course then? or are they letting you go straight onto CIRF? Re: The athletics/running thread
I find it very economical in terms of time spent versus exercise done/calories burnt and all that. The instructor reckons you go about 25km per class! And nearly all of it doing sprints or hills or jumps.Gary the Enfield wrote:Not done spinning but a lot of our runners use it when coming back from injury as it's low impact aerobic exercise.mrkint wrote:not exactly running, but did a spinning class today. god that is a killer. but brilliant though.
