Just f*ck off.

Now.
In the UK I don't touch Carlsberg with a shitty stick.

When in Denmark I drink little else.

Chalk and cheese, my man.
I've a feeling I've asked this before but does anyone know why this is? Is it down to our water or UK brewing techniques? You cant deny it - a cold lager tastes significantly better on mainland europe than it does here

Because UK brewers can't brew lager for shit. Everything is about bottom line, nothing about quality, so they find ways to cut corners and churn out volume quickly. Same as our incredibly, ubiquitously, shit bread.

And Bruce, I'm talking about cider. Or f*ckingbloodycider as it should be referred to henceforth. I take your point on the lager though. We should just give it up as a bad job, and leave the continentals to it.

Indeed. Over there though they (Carlsberg and Tuborg) don't offer anything even vaguely resembling the UK pisswater. Even a modest hotel will have a decent range of draught and bottles going from something fairly light to something dark, all delicious. Nothing painfully cold, yellow, tasteless and ridiculously fizzy to be seen anywhere. Oh, a then they do seasonal stuff like Christmas Beer too. If you can ever get hold of any then I absolutely implore you to buy up all you can carry.

When Fosters began making big inroads into the UK lager market, the recipe for UK brewed Carlsberg was changed, in an effort to compete with the sweeter brew that was winning over the local yoof.

Doubt I've supped any lager in the UK this side of 1986.

Yes, but Bruce likes 'fruit cider' .... no, not simply apple, but all sorts of shite.

NOW, LK, doesn't that offend you even more ??

my missus drinks cider - and fruit ciders of all hues - and sweet white wine... I may be missing out - and it might be chauvinistic/sexist/outrageous - but I have always considered them to be girls drinks...

I kind of like the IDEA of cider - but can't drink more than a couple of slurps before thinking - hmmmm... now I remember why I don't drink it... it promises cold refreshment - but just tastes (to me) metallic and harsh...

Both on they money. :)

If you get the opportunity Bruce, try Elephant beer.

The other thing I've noticed over the years is twice the strength and less than 1/4 the hangover.

This. I have tried on several occasions, and always end up wondering why I even bothered to try again.

I doubt its seen any fruit that didn't originate at ICI.

Man should be ashamed of himself.

Well, when I fancy a glass of cold pop, whereas Bobo reaches for the Toothkind Ribena, I reach for something that's 5% ABV 8)

Actually, I did buy some when that Swedish stuff was on offer in ASDA, but immediately stopped upon the realisation that fruit cider is the same as any other in that they all give me chronic heartburn after a mere two!

I got completely pissed on cider once. I've never repeated the exercise. It is on my banned substances list along with Southern Comfort, cherry brandy, barley wine, and Mateus Rose.

Really annoyed. Can't seem to find a decent DIY kitchen specialist anywhere despite looking far and wide. Any suggestions?

Likewise. A pub in Yorkshire had Scrumpy on, drank it like normal pints, went out in the fresh air, dived over a garden wall, world did a somersault and have never been so sick in my life. Drink almost nothing these days but have well done my share in the past and not much I haven't tried. My list of no's includes Pernod, port, most lager, bitter and most dry wines. San Miguel will do for beer although I did enjoy that Theakstone stuff a bit back. Not you best boozing mate me.

Well, you're an arguementative twunk then, coz you defended fruit cider to the hilt 12 months ago.

If I could find the search facility on here ... which seems to disapperated ... I'd reveal you for the WUM that you are,

Third button along the top, Bobo, after Home and FAQ. Are you sure it wasn't Crazy Horse who liked the cider?

I get heartburn from cider too. The stuff should be kept in a glass case with a hammer next to it.
