I'm going to register my protest against protest voting by voting for someone who the protest voter would like to protest-vote against.

So, LLS, who's it to be?

Once I've managed to work out who it is that you don't want to vote for then I'll let you know. But for the interim in order to protest against the protest voter protesting I suggest George Galloway - that should cover all bases. Unless of course you actually believe the bollox he spouts, in which case, I give up and won't protest vote.

Have to say I'm always impressed by the Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett whenever she is on TV as she was on Question Time last night.

Comes across as well educated, rational and solid. She is Australian though.

I don't really understand the argument of a protest vote anyhow. "I'm protesting about politicians by voting for another politician".

that's because of the ludicrous way you present the argument you are arguing against.

most people who register a protest vote do not do so because they are protesting about "politicians" per se (people who do that simply don't vote - or vote for a non-Political {capital P} candidate like a single-issue-campaigner or a have-a-larf nutjob). Your average protest voter is usually (not always, but usually) protesting about the current government - giving them a bit of a bloody nose in an election that the voter considers to be less crucial than a general election by voting in a way that might give the government bad headlines the next day - is something very different to your aunt-sally characterisation.

Yes I understand that. But it doesn't seem to be what LLS is protesting against in general. And surely a protest vote against a government is best orchestrated by voting for their main political opponent?

I gave the four specific reasons in a post above.
And no, it doesn't work like that, not in a constituency that permanently returns whatever chinless wonder tory central thrusts on it with just me and some loony down the road pointlessly voting for Labour.
It would appear I can hurt Cameron and his mob by voting for an equally foaming at the mouth right wing twxt - whilst knowing that he will never run the country (unless he organises a putsch).

As I said, I'm new to it. It's a steep learning curve this protest thing as I've only ever voted regularly before. Usually it turns out I've voted for the loser so I might as well not have bothered.

Is Farage a near-racist? Is there such a thing? I had people near-lambasting me when I said that di Canio was a fascist, hence why I'm querying this.
That and the fact I'm thinking of voting for the scumbag's party, so I need to know what I'm letting myself in for.

I think so, but he's careful to avoid being entirely open, while offering nods and winks. In the dispiriting debate on QT about the coming 'floods' of Bulgarian and Romanian migrants he made icertain that we all knew that many of them were 'Roma' and that in recent times there had been a surge of crimes in London committed by Romanians... he didn't go as far as saying 'thieving gypsies' - but he gave us what passes for subtle guidance in his hands.
