2) The rules regarding smoking shelters. It discourages me not one jot, that you want to put me in a cold windy shelter, so how about allowing their construction in a manner that at least keeps me dry. Oh and when you trot out to the beer garden on that one hot Manchester summer's day, save yourself the trouble of sitting nearby coughing. Outside is where I can smoke and I've been there all winter.
Pity the poor buggers in Canada in winter who go outside in minus 30 Celsius. Dedicated they are.
It's worth it, though...

There's lots wrong with that.

Consider for a moment that you are in the business of manufacturing stationery. By shirking, or giving it the bum's rush, your productivity will decrease. It being a very desirable commodity, your notepads will then, because there are fewer of them, by the law of supply and demand go up in price. This, because Jordan is a poor country, will probably mean that they can't afford to import as many lined B5 notebooks as they'd have liked. And because Jordanians are by nature a fastidious bunch who accurately record their daily business this will mean that less notes will be taken in the Hashemite Kingdom. Less notes will mean less torture because there is no point in torturing somebody if you can't produce notes - notes that might have been used in Jordanian courts. Therefore by not working you've saved somebody having electrodes attached to their genitals, which is a good thing. There are many other examples of why not working is a good thing that I could produce, but I must get back to work...

Nah, though the demand for notepads may be quite inelastic in nature there are lots of manufacturers of stationary. Increasing your own prices given that there are readily available alternatives will mean people will just switch suppliers, and not have any real impact on the overall market price. If however there was a general increase in the cost of paper which would affect the entire industry then the above scenario may be possible.

In that case, consider that you are a papermill worker, and you decided not to work...etc.

All very 'EU' of you. This all presupposes that the only competitors are equally lazy, workshy and price-fixing b'stards.

All nice & cozy and explains growth in staggeringly inefficient markets such as the EU in the '70's, 80's and 90's.

Amazing how the Far East has developed, isn't it.

I had two appointments today, 12 noon and then 2pm, both in Bolton. A decent days work for me.....

11am ring ring "sorry, I need to cancel our 12 o'clock appointment today.'

11.45 ring ring 'sorry, I need to cancel our 2pm appointment today.'

Wish I had known I was going to have a day off today! The perils of being self employed.

It seems Mormons can divorce - http://lds.about.com/od/temples/a/mormon_divorce.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Nothing to be done about ex-wives - just wait out the storm.

Not sure about angry but I felt distinctly uncomfortable during lunch at work today. There I was busy licking the bottom of my butty box when I had the realisation, thanks to certain posters on here, that I could be really upsetting someone.

I had no idea some folk got so worked up about stuff like that

I wouldn't worry about it - just relax, sit back, spit on the floor and scratch your balls. You'll feel better (and have the lunch room to yourself).

This whole food-finishing etiquette thing...

does it count if you get, say, chips and gravy from your local fried potato emporium, finish the chips and then drink the remaining gravy using the corner of the tray as a kinda beaker?

Perfectly acceptable that. particularly if the gravy has mixed with a bit of juice from the pie.

The LLS etiquette guide to eating and drinking.
Yes to knives and forks. Spoons may be used on soup so long as the liquid is captured with the bowl of the implement angled away from the body, but absolutely no slurping can take place. desert spoons are acceptable.
The tongue must never be visible to third parties.
Masticated food must never be visible to third parties.
Adults should never under any circumstances use a straw.
Children must be physically beaten to within an inch of their lives if, when using a straw, they perform blowback bubbling on the drink they are imbibing or apply continual suction when the drink they are imbibing has been drained.

See, I do that, and then lick out any last vestiges of gravy off of the bottom of the tray with a flat tongue. This also generally means that one'll also end up with bits of gravy that were on the tray edges ending up on the sides of one's face.
