Re: the Photo thread
I'm a complete chicken shit with heights, but I was ok. I wouldn't want to be up there for long in case there was a fire alarm or something! The worst bit was going up in the lift. My ears popped a few times. Anyway, preferable to them idiots that jump out of perfectly serviceable planes.

See those buildings in the foreground? Well you'd have done well to have got me to the top of one of those!

May the bridges I burn light your way

My dog (proper 57) had his anal glands emptied once and yes the smell is something to behold!!
Re: the Photo thread
hey - some cracking shots there! nicely done... too fast a shutter speed and you freeze the motion and the shot is sterile - too slow and it's all lost in blur! also - nice panning!

Re: the Photo thread
Shame the Lanc did not come over again so I could have slowed shutter speed down but did not want to miss any chance of a shot first time round

Re: the Photo thread
you gotta take it when the plane is there!! but - yeah - would be a better shot with some propeller blur...Raven wrote:Shame the Lanc did not come over again so I could have slowed shutter speed down but did not want to miss any chance of a shot first time round

Re: the Photo thread
Been playing with a 9 stop ND filter for the first time. Here are the results.

It's the biggest stopper I have, or was prepared to pay for. It's a Hoya ND400.thebish wrote:niceis that the Big Stopper - or a cheaper version (which I have!)

Re: the Photo thread
15sec exposure? I'd have been tempted to go for longer... the faster water (in the channel) and the still water have that long-exposure effect - but the side bits still look kind flowing... i wonder if 30secs would have made it all misty/whatever the word is for that long-exposure water look!Always hopeful wrote:It's the biggest stopper I have, or was prepared to pay for. Re: the Photo thread
I bought a cheap big stopper last year - but have only used it once - on a visit to the lepe dolphins:

Re: the Photo thread
I tried that, but if I went for anything over 25 secs it became washed out, even with the smallest aperture. It was a very bright day. Maybe the Big Stopper would have allowed a longer exposure. That's the price to pay for going for the cheaper option I suppose.thebish wrote:15sec exposure? In some respects, I wish I'd paid out for a 10 stopper, but struggled to justify it. They're well over £100 as far as I can make out.
I'm hopeful that this filter will still produce those cloudy effects, I just need a duller day. I'm sure there'll be one just around the corner.
Hope is what keeps us going.

Re: the Photo thread
How do these 'stoppers' work chaps? I know I could go a-searching but prefer my information from people using gear rather than those selling it.
Re: the Photo thread
It's just a dark filter - basically like putting sunglasses over your lens - stopping light from entering, then you can do long exposures in broad daylight....Dujon wrote:How do these 'stoppers' work chaps? I think the uses are limited - but they are used to get those pictures where the clouds are streaking across the sky (because they have moved during your 30sec exposure) and/or the moving sea has become a misty (often described as "dreamy") waterscape.... a bit like this: (not my pic)

so....

And boo hiss to Lepe dolphins. I spent valuable minutes of my life perusing that photo looking for a sign of a flipper or other dolphiny bits. I finally googled Lepe dolphins only to discover they aren't dolphins. Boo hiss.

Re: the Photo thread
To restore some feng-shui to the Photo thread here is the only picture of a dolphin I've ever managed to snatch. The composition isn't great, but at least it's a dolphin.
