Re: Dougie
Well .... let's be even more simplistic about it; - DF is the manager and will be for next season
Not McCarthy or anyone else ... so we want, and need, him to succeed. So, maybe we should settle down & see how he does ?

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Re: Dougie
I think disappointment is doing a lot of the talking for some of the anti-Dougie drivel being spouted.
Give them time to have a rethink come August. If not, i'm sure they'll bugger off again when we are doing well.

BL3 has jokingly been accused of being Owen Coyle. Shebby Singh would be more apt perhaps.thebish wrote:so - in your version of the real world you sack every manager who doesn't achieve promotion (or the top 4 in the premiership?)BL3 wrote:In the 'real world' you either win promotion or you don't. BL3, I know you disagree with the appointment of Duogie, fair enough so did I at the time. I've changed my mind and seen enough to be positive about next season, but serious question now, do you genuinely think there would be anything gained from getting rid now and appointing someone else? And if so who?

When did we have the chance to bring back Allardyce?

Also, after reading this thread, I'm certain that BL3 is a massive troll and is only doing this to get some sort of weird kick out of it. It's the only explanation.

It took you this long?! His complete disappearance for three months while we were doing well (and how pleasant it was without him) was the big clue.
Re: Dougie
Not too unfair a summary except for missing the pile of dog shit Mr Motivator left behind, something for which I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong believing it was not so bad.BL3 wrote:Time to introduce a bit of perspective into the Dougie love-in.
I've read that he 'took us from nowhere to 6th'. He actually spent three months taking us from 17th to 20th, via several weeks when we were becalmed in 16th spot. He then took us back up to a final position of 7th, which is effectively 'nowhere', since we can't actually be promoted from that position. Given that there were only a handful of points between the bottom three and the top six for most of the season, this isn't as actually as difficult as it might have been in previous seasons.
He was brought in to win promotion at a club with a wage bill in the top three in the league. He failed. He managed an average of 1.6 ppg over the course of his 33 games in charge, which would have been enough to finish 5th over the course of the season, in a piss-poor league. Even if you add the points he accumulated at Palace to those he won at Bolton, it would still wouldn't have been enough to finish higher than 5th. Mick McCarthy took exactly the same number of points from the same number of games this season with a far worse team.
We didn't get going until February... three months after he took over. We took one point from games against Barnsley, Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday, teams which were still in danger of going down yesterday. We won three away games all season on his watch. The Championship isn't that complicated. He needs to put the coaching manual down and employ some common sense. He dropped a major bollock with his team selection against Blackpool, added to the one he dropped against Leicester.
It won't be as easy next season because the league can't possibly be as bad as it was this season. Let's hope that Dougie can up his game next season because 1.6ppg won't be anywhere near enough to win promotion. We might just have blown our best chance.
We really did not warrant promotion this year and what worries me is Doogie is getting out the effort now but in terms of any class we are off the ballpark.
I don't think we will have the funds to rectify this any time soon and that realisation hurts.
Won't be here in another 40 years and doubt Munich will ever happen again in my life time.
I'll turn up at the Bok like the labour sheep vote for the fat controller, no hope, but that's what we always do.

Great, and perhaps you could explain how you were going to pay for the Alan Smith heading shopping list Allardyce had?Martin_Cruise wrote:thebish wrote:so - in your version of the real world you sack every manager who doesn't achieve promotion (or the top 4 in the premiership?)BL3 wrote:In the 'real world' you either win promotion or you don't. In my real world the club would have kept Allardyce.
Or perhaps why the club or anyone would have paid masses of money to keep a manager who had itchy feet and was bored having not got the England job?
Allardyce was hugely ambitious, as soon as England turned him down he was going to be offski at some point. Eddie dug deep to give him the money to sign Anelka, but what would have happened if he'd couged up more to keep him for another season? Allardyce would simply have wanted more, or just walked through sheer boredom and ambition.
There is no real world where Allardyce staying was anything other than temporary.
And whilst Gartside claimed he "thought about offering him the chance of a return" when Coyle was appointed do you honestly think that was every owt more than a wistful musing? Allardyce wasn't and isn't ever coming back.

I have plenty of doubts about the past 3 months good run, but I don't sit here sniping I'll say my piece, stand my ground and don't disappear into the long grass.
I shouldn't speak for others, but I quite enjoyed it while you weren't on here, in case you were wondering.

He inherited a squad that was more than good enough to win promotion in a season when only 68 points were required for the play-offs, the lowest ever total over 46 games.Hoboh wrote:Not too unfair a summary except for missing the pile of dog shit Mr Motivator left behind

Yep. He certainly fxcked that up. So are we going to piss and moan about it for the remainder of the summer? No we are not. Let's see what happens next year. In the meantime I think you'd make a marvellous Wolves fan.BL3 wrote:He inherited a squad that was more than good enough to win promotion in a season when only 68 points were required for the play-offs, the lowest ever total over 46 games.Hoboh wrote:Not too unfair a summary except for missing the pile of dog shit Mr Motivator left behind

In your opinion. You say it as if it is an indisputable fact, which clearly it isn't, given there is no evidence to support it.BL3 wrote:He inherited a squad that was more than good enough to win promotion in a season when only 68 points were required for the play-offs, the lowest ever total over 46 games.Hoboh wrote:Not too unfair a summary except for missing the pile of dog shit Mr Motivator left behind
Re: Dougie
But how was Dougie to know that 68 points would have been enough, did he use his crystal ball?BL3 wrote:He inherited a squad that was more than good enough to win promotion in a season when only 68 points were required for the play-offs, the lowest ever total over 46 games.Hoboh wrote:Not too unfair a summary except for missing the pile of dog shit Mr Motivator left behind

Re: Dougie
I'm willing to bet that every year a relegated premiership side's fans who fail to get promoted the next will say "this was the weakest championship ever, it's going to be much harder next year".
I'm not sure how you can judge the strength or otherwise of the league. It might have been a low number required to get in the play-offs but equally it was a high total to survive. Which suggests the division is tight. And there isn't much between teams. Does that make it easier or harder to get promoted? Not sure.
I am sure that if say QPR and Reading spend gazillions and run away with the league next year that BL3 will not use be saying "it's a tough league to get out of this year"......

I'm sure that was you about 6 months ago, actually.
