I wouldn't normally post things like this because I don't want a few of you lot having a coronary! But the last one made even me fumeOur biggest concern has to be that for centuries the British people have been able to rub along with people from other cultures. We have been able to offer a home to Jews from Russia in the 19th century, the Irish, the Hugenots, and Afro-Caribbeans, Indian-Asians from Uganda. We had a golden opportunity to build a tolerant multi-racial society then the Left shut down any talk or rational discussion about immigration from the Indian sub continent - eg Pakistan and Bangladesh. They called Enoch Powell a racist and Nazi, which was a grotesque insult to a noble patriot with wartimne experience of India. His dire warnings of the perils that would come from increased immigration from the New Commonwealth were ignored and New Labour capitalised grabbing the immigrant vote by opening the flood gates. Anyone with two brain cells who travels around Britain could see the looming problem. This country does not belong to the British people any more. To change this you have to vote UKIP.

What does it matter, the only difference between people of different colours is exactly that, they just have different levels of pigmentation, get over it! This study tells us nothing about how assimilated these people are...

Well done, DM, for growing a spine to publish this uncomfortable truth. Meanwhile, our hopelessly incompetent Tory leader has moved the country further Left than many Labour governments would have been delighted with.

But seriously, The Tories will now be shitting it and will lurch to the right/anti-Europe in attempt to head off the fruitcakes of the UKIP. Genuinely, the world scares me. Its so self evident that UKIP are a bunch of time wasters that we shouldn't even be discussing them. I mean, really, what the f*ck?
Farage is now strutting about saying he would work with the tories, but couldn't work with cameron... who the feck does he think he is???
Don't know if you are familiar with this concept...

Re: The Politics Thread
Farage is up against David Cameron, Ed Milliband and Nick Clegg - you could put Orville the Duck against them and he'd won votes (Keith Harris for PM!).
It's not Nigel's fault that we've got 3 cardboard toffs running the major parties, if they had their own houses in order there wouldn't be a UKIP.
Not strictly politics but everytime I see Nick Robinson I hope one day that he gets hit by lightning while he's live (literally) on air.....

Not the average commute home this evening... most of the journey I was sitting next to Ed Balls and his adviser. I put it to the Shadow Chancellor that when he 'famously' tweeted his name by mistake, what he must have been doing is trying to search for his own name. He denied it. Nice enough bloke though, disappointingly. They got off at Forest Hill - I wonder what takes him there.

never mind! I think it is more interesting when someone finds someone they might consider to be a political opponent actually to be a nice bloke rather than the more predictable story of meeting someone you might disagree with and predictably reporting that they are a tw*t....mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Because it makes for a less interesting story than if he'd behaved like the tw*t he often comes across as on TV...thebish wrote:why are you disappointed that he is a nice bloke?mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Not the average commute home this evening... most of the journey I was sitting next to Ed Balls and his adviser. Re: The Politics Thread
There were two people I did dislike on the basis of their political views and public personae - Lucien Bouchard, then premier of Quebec whose agenda was separation and independence, and Pierre Bourque, then mayor of Montreal. I ended up in conversation with both of them - the former at a champagne graduation party for his wife and the latter at a rubber chicken B'Nai Brith human rights dinner. I found them both intelligent and charismatic - which I suppose politicians generally are or their career is short. These people were painted as demagogues but, even if I disagreed fundamentally with their agenda, they struck me as democrats and willing to discuss hot button topics in a civil manner. Ultimately I rather liked them. I suppose it is possible I could like our current independentiste premier, Pauline Marois, if I had dinner with her - but I consider it unlikely.thebish wrote:never mind! Re: The Politics Thread
Just taken out a 'supporters sub' to Freedom, the Anarchist paper that is the longest-living in the world - 125 years of publication.
They (Freedom Press - they publish Anarchist books and pamphlets as well as the paper) were the victims of a firebomb that was intended to put them out of business two months ago - friends of the EDL I guess... And I really don't like that...
I am not an anarchist (though i once was), but remain very attracted to ideas of freedom, equality and collective ownership and management of production. And, in any case, I don't want to see a libertarian socialist publication die.
So - I'll be back on the MI5 subversive list... Or they'll just add this one to the file they already have...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It seems to me that that term has a lot of connotations but is hard to pin down and define... which is why I was hoping William might explain what it is he used to believe in that made him and anarchist, but now doesn't.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Anarchy at a guess...mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:So what is it that you used to believe in but now don't?William the White wrote:I am not an anarchist (though i once was), but remain very attracted to ideas of freedom, equality and collective ownership and management of production.

The trouble with anarchy is there are no rules so you cannot impose your version of what you think anarchy is on anybody else's anarchist ideals.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:It seems to me that that term has a lot of connotations but is hard to pin down and define... which is why I was hoping William might explain what it is he used to believe in that made him and anarchist, but now doesn't.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Anarchy at a guess...mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:So what is it that you used to believe in but now don't?William the White wrote:I am not an anarchist (though i once was), but remain very attracted to ideas of freedom, equality and collective ownership and management of production.
