We got Holden on a free, doesn't mean he's been easy to replace.....

hmmmm... well - if you're touting Owen Coyle as a better bargain-hunter talent scout than Dougie Freedman... then I'm not here to stop you!
I see the trap you set there :D

In all seriousness I'd want an offer of at least £8m before we even contemplated selling Eagles

What about Warbies? :?

When we were young kids, Mr Keough's old mum used to live a few doors up from us. Oh how we laughed as it used to take her 15 minutes to reverse her old Morris 1000 off of the drive

Treat for us young boys was when he used to turn up to visit her and we got to purr (and leave jam and soil handprints) all over his Bentley Corniche. :)

I honestly don't know how many people Warbies employ but if it's more than 800ish (in the Bolton area alone) then I've been told incorrect info and I apologise :)

A Morris 1000 :conf: waaaaay before my time

Out of interest, who do people think we could get to replace Eagles goals (12) and assists (12)?

I cant think of more than one midfielder (Almen Abdi) who came close?

Alonso has already been replaced. Alonso couldn't defend.

No great loss.

Eagles was our best attacking player last season, by a large distance.

Not a chance of finding a player to provide the goals and assists he did without spending a lot.
Already been established that you are a bigot.

Alonso has been improving steadily with game time, something that your bigotry is incapable of acknowledging.

He has been replaced with Tierney, who I hope will do well. Potential wise I know who has more

Eagles goes missing often. If he stays happy days, if he goes, he can be replaced. What did you say about Lee being replaced with an up and downer? Why not Eagles.
Perhaps you should check out Eagles contribution in terms of goals and assists last season and then compare that to Lee's record.

If Eagles goes 'missing often' then Lee must have fecking vanished for the majority.....

I don't need to check out anything and I'm not sure why you feel the need to compare players :conf:

If we are doing that then I know who has shown the most at the top level. Hopefully Lee will return from his injury and be as good as before, if you put your bigotry to one side, I'm sure you will agree.

Are we going to sign a striker who can actually shoot this season?

Eagles scored more last season than Lee has in his entire Bolton career.

The return from injury stuff is bollocks as well. Lee made a couple of sub appearances at the end of the season we went down. Then had a full pre season.

Then a full season.

Lee at his best wouldn't have been able to lead the charge in an attacking sense, in the same way Eagles did last season. Eagles can win games at this level, Lee is merely a cog in a team, and for large parts last season a not particularly effective one.

Anyhow the point being that selling your top scorer, top chance creator and statistically and factually best attacking player from the season before is not likely to be a great idea unless you have no choice. Frankly of all the players we've got Eagles is the one I'd most want us to hang on to.

A combination of Ken Bates and administration most likely behind that. I'll bet he trousered more than a 7 figure sum out of them though...
Amazing as in 2001 they spent £7.5m on Seth Johnson !

Yes .... THAT Seth Johnson.
That's the one with the story, probably apocryphal but like most such tales believable, about Leeds telling young Johnson's agent they could "only pay Seth £25kpw". Seeing the disbelieving stare, they say "alright, 35." Jaws drop, at which the suits say "final offer, 45k..."

Me 8) Tottenham were linked with him when Modric left.

Signing someone who "might" do a job isn't replacing Eagles and his goals/assists.

Plenty say Eagles is replaceable for the 3.5 mil which we would get if the rumour is true.. I beg to differ and I think most are having second thoughts because nobody has answered my questions apart from you.

Whilst it is inescapable fact that Eagles scores a fair few and has lots of assists, I think it is just as important to acknowledge that he takes more shots than the rest of the team put together and a fair number of them trickle weakly, either at the keep or well wide. It easy to say he was top scorer/assister, but what was the cost to us in lost opportunity by continually taking crap pot shots/going missing?

It is too simplistic to just look at his goals (which isn't an amazing number by any means) and assists. He is valuable to us as a player, but I do question whether a more consistent, maybe less talented player, would be more valuable over the course of a season. That said, I'd want more than 3.5m for him to give Dougie a chance to buy a striker that can score goals at this level.

Again I ask why you feel the need to compare Lee and Eagles, when the gossip is Cardiff are interested in Eagles.

However, as usual for you in order to prove your points you omit important facts.

At what level has Lee mainly played at for Bolton, could it be in a league where you are up against better players so its harder to score?

I take it that you have never suffered a bad injury and played sports if you think that coming back is that easy well

Saying that Lee at his best in this division wouldn't have been effective, well what evidence have you of this because I could quite come out with that Lee would have scored 25 goals and been player of the season but I won't because I really don't know how he would have done as its opinion.

Ultimately what I and you think about selling as Lee doesn't mean anything as the club will decide. However it appears that I unlike you have faith in Duggie to find a replacement should he be sold.

I have no idea! but then - there was no huge campaign for us to sign Eagles before Coyle signed him - and now he seems to be the crown jewels!

I'm happy to trust that Dougie knows what he's doing...
