Worth every penny of the £16m.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

People seem to forget his first and second seasons with the club. The only time he really put effort in was when he was looking to leave / get a new contract. He was immense in the first half of his last season but aside from that his stay was ultimately problematic. The only way he would come back would be if he was on good money and even then I would question his attitude, its not like hes not in demand elsewhere.plymouth wanderer wrote:![]()

We could accuse Elmo of a couple of things but effort is not one IMO
I wouldn't intend on having Klasnic as a starter but he's certainly worth having on the bench especially considering the chances he puts away and especially seeing as we're creating a lot more than we did in the Premiership. He's just had a bad spell in Germany and will be looking for a club, I reckon he would have takers but I presume we'd be an interesting proposition for him and it wouldn't be as costly as Elmander. Its the same reason Kevin Phillips is worth a punt.BWFC_Insane wrote:Klasnic would be a disaster. Can't run, can't move, half decent finisher but certainly no 20 goal a season man.
Christ he'd be doing well if he managed 10 starts.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Was he worth what we'd paid for him? Probably not. Did he look worth it compared to the fella he replaced? Not even nearly. Would he walk back into this team? With one leg (hop then).
All academic of course. The £400k price is probably do-able, but for a 32 year-old on presumably big wages who'd get better offers? *Family fortunes wrong noise*.

The idea he didn't try is utter bollocks. He wasn't lazy for his first two years, just shit. I don't ever remember watching him thinking, 'he can't be arsed'. This whole try harder to get a new deal sounds nice, but I don't think it's true at all. For every player who has a great spell in their last few months, there are plenty who've fecked off on a free, rejected because they didn't suddenly improve. You only remember the ones who do have a good spell, and so it's easy to say that's the reason.

He was a mard arse though. He used to bottle it rather than gamble to get in position or make a run, or chase a through-ball.

Always defended him on overall effort and contribution, as I do Ngog. However when you get to the end and review it he was an incredibly poor signing, and lacked a genuine pair of bollocks (metaphorically speaking of course!). Fact is he did only play well for half a season when other clubs were looking at him on a free, then went back to being shit for the latter part of the season. not saying it was deliberate, or even subconscious, but it's still very frustrating in terms of the club's investment.
In his defence he had Megson as a manager for most of his time who clearly failed to get the best out of him and who he admitted he didn't get on with. Still a pretty lame excuse though.
I'd be pretty pissed off if he goes to hull and does well, though if he ends up there I wish him well.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Did we not try to play him on the right wing for several matches ?
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
folk seemed to like and get away with trying to give him head injuries that kevin davies wouldve been banned for months with.LeverEnd wrote:

which was kinda ironic seeing as he always seemed to get booked for merely looking at an opposition defender.
after a bit there's lacking bollocks and why even bother.
he did better running with ball at feet at a fullback that didnt have a long time to decide when to elbow him in the skull.
and coyle give a shitload of big outlay players free transfers. and you knew months in advance and nowt was being done or planned , were a fecking scandal.
Douglas the Cool sees it in advance and does stuff.

to rise above it. He didn't. Ok he can blame Megson to a point but take some responsibility for playing crap as well. That's what I'm getting at, not saying he didn't try or dodged tackles etc.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
To be honest, would you sign a new deal if for 2 years everytime you were on the pitch you got heckled and had people shouting 'Ivan Klasnic'? Same with Alonso, we don't cut them any slack when they play poorly, they play well in the last year of their deal and then people act like they owe us something.

You may have spotted, that in the second half of the season, he was moved deeper and wider to accommodate Sturridge. Not a good move by Coyle on Elmander's part.LeverEnd wrote:Fact is he did only play well for half a season when other clubs were looking at him on a free, then went back to being shit for the latter part of the season. not saying it was deliberate, or even subconscious, but it's still very frustrating in terms of the club's investment.
The season after, when we'd shipped out all the dross like Elmander and everyone's other crowd pleaser Taylor, we got relegated.
The more shite we shipped out, the worse we looked for it.

Which is exactly what happened. He had that great half season (out of 3 years ... so not too impressive) but he was truly excellent. Maybe he was playing for a move, or maybe he'd settled, or maybe we'd found out how to use him, who knows.Worthy4England wrote:You may have spotted, that in the second half of the season, he was moved deeper and wider to accommodate Sturridge. His game against Newcastle when we won by a hatful he was unstoppable.
When Sturridge came in ... which no-one can dispute was a success ... he was shipped out wide. Less effective and far less happy he clearly decided then he was off come season end. It was clear he was in a sulk .... & he & Sturridge didn't like each other. I noted on a few occasions he didn't join in the celebrations when Sturridge scored. I did think right back then that we should have tested out a Sturridge/Elmander pairing up front .... but that would have had Emma on the warpath I guess.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
