Not just me then !?!?

I honestly thought it was MY connection !!

It must be deliberate ... they're quite capable of setting up good reception.

Some clubs are aware of the public's demand for wifi, and it doesn't surprise me that clued-up City are at the forefront.

So long as they turn it off during the actual game. Last day need for other results notwithstanding.

The cheerleaders can stay. Not for the 'obvious' reasons (although I'd like to pinch Palace's), but because ours are hilariously shit. At any one time at least three of them are looking along the line trying to figure out what everyone else is doing!

VPN = virtual private network.

They have several uses, but on an open WiFi network you are much more susceptible to the nasty techie folk. Very easy for them to snoop on what you are doing/hack you and so on. A VPN makes this much much more difficult. It also anonamises (is that a word?) what you are doing.

In other uses. I use one to get around the Internet filters in use here. Also useful to make the Beeb think I'm in the UK and allow me to use iPlayer.

VPNs are used by companies and institutions to secure their data. Increasing numbers of individuals use them and in particular expats. I pay for a service, but there are free ways of doing it, or if clever, using a switched on PC at home.

Probably more info than you bargained for. Only thing to remember is that open networks increases the chances of being hacked massively. Particularly in places that have large numbers of people using the open network.

Type VPN into Google and you'll have hundreds show up. I use ProXPN across my phone, tablet and laptops (same subscription). Easy to turn on and off, so you only use it when needed.. They have a free version that has some restrictions, the main one being speed at 100kbps. If on a mobile then that speed for just checking the odd thing might do you.
