Thank God. Eaten by midgets whilst watching Two Lads sounds like a Chapter in Liberace's Autobiography!
Re: The athletics/running thread
Good luck with the tri. I will not be flogging myself early on. Got a habit of thinking about what I could do 10 years ago, going off slower and then finding that I should've gone off slower still! Tomorrow I'll be sensible, not looking at it as a race.Gary the Enfield wrote:
Don't worry. Just get it over with and set a marker for next time. The point of the Park Run is to show improvement so don't go blasting off or you'll set yourself too hard a target for next time. Apart from Cruella there is a nice downhill and two long flat sections so just enjoy.
HG I did the open 5k two years ago at the Horwich Carnival. Really enjoyed it. The cycling was crazy and that corner of Chorley Old Road and Winter Hey Lane saw some near disastrous crashes.
Anyway, Bedford Sprint Tri for me on Sunday. 400m swim, 24k bike and 5k run

Re: The athletics/running thread
Decided to test my recovery on Friday at the Rivington Trail 10k. Bloody ell wish I hadn't bothered.
Only 20 racers turned up. In February I reckon I'd have squeezed into the first 8. Lack of fitness had me almost contemplate walking at one point, particularly when clubmates I usually beat were overtaking me with ease. Finished in 12th or 13th, absolutely wrecked but worse of all tweaked the sodding injured calf again.
Set my recovery back another 2 weeks I reckon

Bugger. I don't suppose there's much flat round there is there? Hills are not really conducive to recovery.
Feel a bit guilty about posting this (but I will anyway).

Bedford Sprint Triathlon yesterday. Completed in 1:26:01 which is 2mins 39secs faster than my previous time. Aided by a good bike section, 52:27 over 24k, and two quick transitions.
Swim is still poor 10:34 for 400m. Same time, to the second, as last time. Still strong on the run 20:40 for 5k

Did my second fell race of the season on Saturday. Got clattered by a little old lady spectator on a gravel downhill incline. I've got a gravel graze all the way from my shoulder down to my ankle on the right hand side. It hurts, and every time I bend my knee I'm re-opening the wounds and the scabs start weeping. Still, didn't come last again, which is the main aim.

I did it. And my quads are killing me from those hills. Enjoyed it though. Good turnout, 251 runners. I think I was 6th in about 20 mins but got left off the results because my barcode wouldn't read. Not bothered though, calf held up which was the main thing. Will do it again in a couple of weeks and look to run a lot faster.Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:Might make my parkrun debut at leverhulme Park this Sat. Woah! Well done!
Re: The athletics/running thread
5k?? in 20mins??? nahhh - not humanly possible - surely some mistake??

Re: The athletics/running thread
Bad luck with the calf. Surprised at such a low turnout. Enjoyed the sunday races, especially with my 12 yr old niece getting a medal for 3rd girl in the kids race.Harry Genshaw wrote:Decided to test my recovery on Friday at the Rivington Trail 10k. Bloody ell wish I hadn't bothered.

They were great weren't they? Good atmosphere with runners (& walkers & cyclists) from all over. For one reason or another this year was the first time I've been. Working on the finish funnel for the Masters 5k was hectic I can tell you - but thankfully no hiccups. Only sad that I missed the Unicycle race!LeverEnd wrote:Enjoyed the sunday races, especially with my 12 yr old niece getting a medal for 3rd girl in the kids race.
Oh aye & sub 21 minutes at Bolton park run is a damn fine time - well done to you and GtE for another top tri performance

Re: The athletics/running thread
Driving home from Golf yesterday to find the centre of Horwich blocked off with barriers Winter Hey Lane and both CNR and COR down to The Crown. Anyway, there was a unicycle race going on. Unicycles!! Looked like the most fun that I've never had. Absolutely brilliant, and boy were they moving.

May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: The athletics/running thread
Next race is a trail relay at Witton Park Blackburn. Aim to torture myself back to fitness! It's possibly tougher than Leverhulme from what I remember of the XC course.Harry Genshaw wrote:They were great weren't they? Good atmosphere with runners (& walkers & cyclists) from all over. Re: The athletics/running thread
I thought I'd give you all a thrill. I've posted a picture of my naked flesh below (well, my right knee and calf anyway).
This is the result of being clattered by a spectator on a gravelly bit of downhill at last Saturday's fell race. It's had four days to heal and is just beginning not to sting too much. My shoulder, elbow, palm and hip are in a similar state.

How's the scabs LLS? And the calf HG? My calf is hurting again now. We should rename this thread including something about ageing crocks!
