Interesting boris ... what did you see as the issues /

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I haven't noticed any issues ... maybe I'm not asking the right things of it ?

There seems to be a slight response issue. You press something and there's an ever so slight delay in response. The camera is terrible, the video play back from video's sent from other devices is grainy, the sound is tinny and it all feels a bit 'cheap'.

He had a play with the tablet I have and he was amazed at the difference in quality, speed and functions. He even said he was gutted that went for the cheaper option.. And for my Dad to say something that somebody else has is better than his, is some accolade... Everything usually goes back to price. But not in this case.

It's his 60th in Feb, so I might buy him the mini. The Photo Stream and the iMessaging for vid's and stuff is appealing to him as he's always asking us to send him stuff involving the little 'un.

Interesting. Thanks for that.

Well, #2 son's back for a week next week, I'll have a gander and compare. (though an eye-pad's not going to happen, just so as I make that clear !)

the 2's run android4 the older ones dont, sounds to me like you might be comparing an old one to a newer ipad or a £200 tablet against a £500 ipad

the big Galaxy Notes'es are samsung's dear ones.

the Tab2s etc are their cheapo ones.

the Tab1s were dear as , at first.. before they become the 'lower tier' devices about 12-18 months later

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Ga ... _%287.0%29" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

get the nexus7, so you dont get left behind with crappy old software once the manfacturer dumps it. you can root it or whatever to make it work better with up to date-er software.

Posted this last week Bruce:

My boss at work had a phone call from her 14 year old son last night that went:

Son "Er, I think Im in trouble but don't tell dad"

Mum "That'd be hard seeing as I'm on speakerphone and he's sat at the side of me. What've you done"?

Son "Well, er, I was erm, looking at this adult site........... by accident........ and the next thing I know, it had taken a picture of me on the webcam and came up with a Police charge sheet with a picture of me on it. It says the Metropolitan Police are coming round and that I have to pay 80 pounds as a fine for accessing porn"

By this time, the poor lad was in tears and his dad had to pull the car up he was laughing so hard (I'm unsure about where I stand morally on the laughing thing atm).

So, a warning to us all, be careful what you ahem, 'accidentally' access and watch out for a rather good scam.

2 people at work have had the same and there was some Scottish lass on the radio yesterday who had ben watching a DVD in the bath on her laptop when her own webcam started taking and sending pics of her remotely.

You might want to wear a false nose and a wig next time you're watching something erm, 'alternative' :D

Out of 7 smartphones tested, the iPhone was found to be slowest in a Geekbench 2 technical test of the UK's most popular phones.

http://news.sky.com/story/1107814/iphon ... speed-test" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Apple's iPhone 5 is the slowest smartphone on the market, according to tests by consumer watchdog Which?

Possibly the world's best-known mobile came seventh out of seven in a Geekbench 2 technical test of the UK's most popular phones.

The test measures processor and memory performance across smartphone platforms - if a phone has a high score, it will work well when photo-editing, playing games and using apps.

The results revealed Samsung's Galaxy S4 was almost twice as fast as Apple's star phone with Samsung's Note 2 also scoring higher in the Geekbench pecking order.

Sony, Google, Blackberry and HTC smartphones also outranked the iPhone 5 for tasks such as games, pictures or apps.

The low score will be a disappointment for the US giant's huge fan base who tend to believe Apple's products are superior to all their competitors.

"Undoubtedly, Apple will upgrade its next iPhone with an improved processor when it launches later this autumn," Which? said.

"For the moment, Samsung's Galaxy S4 is the phone to beat when it comes to speed."

The Mrs got one of them there iPad Mini things yesterday. It was a freebie for spending too much money on a credit card

Anyway. She's away at the moment, so asked me to set it up for her. My review in case anyone is considering one...

It took about 3 minutes before I nearly threw it out the door. It was all going quite well during the set-up. Do you want to give up your privacy, do you want this in English etc etc. It then asked for an Apple ID and the trouble started. The ID the wife gave me gave me a message saying the ID had to be an email address for security purposes. So I entered the email address I know she uses. This resulted in a no. So, I did the forgotten password thing and tried again. Same result. In the end I went back to the very start (after trying numerous times) and it accepted the login it rejected many times. Who was it that said it just works, intuitive etc? Bollocks it is.

Once into the thing I decided to have a play around. To be honest, I didn't find anything that made me think this is better/faster/prettier than any other tablet I've used. The form factor as they call it was fine. Nothing fancy but easy to hold. Screen was fine, but not really much different to anything else I've used and not as good as the one on my phone.

In summary. I don't get the hype. It is no better than lots of other stuff on the market. I find the interface frustrating and it definitely isn't 'just intuitive', or at least no more so than anything else out there.

you are clearly wrong. i think you'll find that once you've used one - you'll never want to go back to anything else. and it IS intuitive... it just works.. etc...

Setup for the iPad made me want to murder most things within a two mile radius.

Since then it's been great, though.

I got a Samsung over an iPad because it was pretty much the only tablet that had an sd card slot rather than try and tell me I didn't need one because of 'clouds'. Smug wankers.

Just pointing that out.
