It's not a struggle. Struggle implies effort. It's more discombobulation than anything. But that's probably a word the younger generations are unfamiliar with.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Not used any of them myself. Re: Technology Thread.
As we don't have an unnerving experience thread and it is technology related I thought I'd post this here...
On my brief jaunt to the UK this weekend past I was tasked with finding an adapter for Mrs Twin's Apple device. I had no luck in Currys and other electrical type stores, so it was with no little trepidation that I headed towards the Apple store. From here on in I shall refer to it as the IQless Lemming Cliff, or ILC if you will.
I paused on the threshold of ILC and felt a wave of nausea as I took in 100s of people fawning over shiny white devices and tugging at the polo sleeves of an army of spotty nerds wearing a t-shirt with genius or something on it. I eventually crossed the threshold and walked as quickly as I could towards a display of peripherals. Half way there I was pounced upon by a spotty genius. I didn't know the lemming lingo and I could see I was instantly categorised as someone to be converted. I quickly told the genius to go away and I found the adapter I needed (15 quid FFS). I then ventured to find a till. They don't exist in ILC world. I then had to approach another Genius to find out how one pays for things. I paid the Genius for the item via their little device. I was then informed that receipts don't exist anymore. They would email instead?
I can honestly say it was a terrible experience. It made my skin crawl and made me wonder why people buy into it to the degree they do. I thought the Nespresso store in Dubai was wanky but the 'Apple experience' was 10 times worse. I will never ever go into one of these stores again. No way José.

May I just add ........
Only joking.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

B fecking T have placed my new hub thingy downstairs, whereas the old one was upstairs, into which my PC was plugged. As such I now need a wireless adapter jobbie for the upstairs PC. Which is the best one to get, please

Re: Technology Thread.
I recommend a decent dual band one. Don't bother with the new ac ones, just go for wireless N. I've a Netgear WNDR 3400 which does the job without being silly priced. I wont go into the techie stuff unless you want to know!
Edit: just realised it was a wireless adapter Bruce wanted. Therefore this post is redundant
Bruce - just get one that can do wireless N as opposed to the older A,B and G ones.

Re: Technology Thread.
I normally go to Scan Computers on Middlebrook for my pc stuff. Depending on what you are after an IEEE 802.11b/g can cost less than £10. One that will do IEEE 802.11b/g/n will still be less than £20.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I recommend a decent dual band one. Don't bother with the new ac ones, just go for wireless N. Not too sure of the range but it will all depend on the obstructions between the pc and router.
