Just saw Alan Davies on Liverpool Road. I can draw two conclusions from this experience: 1) There is no filming of QI going on at the moment. 2) Alan Davies dyes his hair.

And the third conclusion is foregone anyway.

Had a bizarre experience last night. A friend of mine called to ask if I could pop round as her husband was out and there was a strange woman sat in her car.

I went round and, indeed there was an Oriental woman of about 65 years old sat in the passenger seat of the car. My friend had spoken to her and she seemed perfectly calm but insisted that the car was her house. She had no purse, no keys and no ID on her whatsoever.

Whilst my friend called the ambulance service and the police I spoke to her and, although she knew she had a husband she didn't know his name or where she lived or how she came to be on this particular street. I spoke very calmly to her and asked her where she came from. Luckily she remembered she was from Hong Kong and so we had a nice chat about that.

I asked her again what her name was and this time she answered but then got a little agitated and decided she wanting to walk. I asked if she would mind if I walked with her and she seemed happy to. We walked around the block for 10 minutes until the Ambulance arrived. I managed to glean from her that her husband ran a shop (which I took to mean a takeaway as she said he was working that evening) so when the ambulance came I popped round the corner and went into one of the Chinese takeaways near my house. When I spoke to the lady in there she recognised the name and said she knew the lady's husband and called him to let him know where she was.

The ambulance crew then arrived with the lady and they got the shop owner to speak to her. The ambulance crew then took her home to her husband.

Feeling very proud of my friend and myself today. This lady could have ended up in hospital last night with no-one knowing where she was and instead she is back in the loving care of her family.

I know a couple of people have mentioned their experiences with dementia on here and just wanted to share mine. It must be so frustrating and terrifying to live with that all the time.

Top man, Gary. That was very cool and calm of you (a lot of people can flip out and get frustrated in that situation). You helped a lot of people rest easier last night. Only dealt with people with dementia in the relative safety of the hospital, and it isn't nice. So yes, you are a top chap.

To be honest I had a similar situation two years ago. My elderly neighbour's son had something of a breakdown in the street (he was some sort of financier in the city and had lost his job and got divorced in rapid succession).

Anyway my neighbour's wife went in the ambulance and I offered to give him a lift up to the hospital (thinking it would only take me half an hour). The son latched onto me when we arrived and I spent the next 3 hours trying to convince him to stay in A&E until he could be seen. That was the longest 3 hours of my life as he was very agitated and ranting and the only thing I could get any sense of out of him over was Spurs as he is a massive fan. I spent 3 hours talking about Spurs from the 70's to the present day and was able to leave when they called him through for assessment.

He's fine now though and has a job he's happy with (not in banking) and is on the way to repairing his relationship with his ex.

The point is I remembered this and I tried to find something with the Chinese lady that she would feel happy talking about without having to remember too much detail. With her it was her early years in Hong Kong.

Joined the library a short while ago to save money as I buy too many books. Loaned out the first one, dropped it in the bath and ended up having to buy them a new copy.

i can confirm this is true - and i would never suggest otherwise! having actually been in your bath, though, I can also confirm that it is quite easy not to drop stuff in it... (well, leaving aside that awkward incident with the soap...) my mobile phone, mp3 player, library books, kindle, laptop, dinner, magazines, cup of tea, cat and shoes - all survived being dropped in the bath...

i can confirm this is true - and i would never suggest otherwise! having actually been in your bath, though, I can also confirm that it is quite easy not to drop stuff in it...
