BWFCI wouldn't you say Van Persie should of been the difference for Arsenal? After all he was one of the best strikers in the world last season! He was the difference for United

Yeah which suggests spending £40M plus on a striker who scores less than RVP isn't going to be the answer to all Arsenal's worries......plymouth wanderer wrote:BWFCI wouldn't you say Van Persie should of been the difference for Arsenal? I don't really understand why Liverpool would take the risk of selling their prize asset to Arsenal. I know liverpool have faded - but they at least still consider themselves to be in that second tier of the premiership mini-league battling for fourth place... Arsenal are a direct rival for that spot... at least you could argue over Van persie that manU are not REALLY rivals for arsenal - but surely Liverpool still have pretensions of being rivals to Arsenal?
if Liverpool allow Suarez to leave - he leaves a big hole for Liverpool - they won't attract his equal with no champions league to offer - however great their fans are...
they'll be desperate to keep him... I guess - equally - arsenal will be desperate to buy him if Rooney and Higuain are off the radar now - they NEED to buy a big fish to keep their supporters happy...

Cos Suarez wants to go? I agree that they probably would rather sell him abroad. And probably would to an extent like to keep him. But Suarez has publically said he wants out a couple of times this summer. Can they afford to keep a "troublesome" player who isn't fully committed?thebish wrote:I don't really understand why Liverpool would take the risk of selling their prize asset to Arsenal. There is a point where Liverpool cannot say No, even to direct rivals. That point is when somebody offers the full get-out-of-contract amount as stated in the time-to-terminate-this-contract clause in Suarez'z contract.
So far only the gotta-tell-the-chap-that clause has been triggered.

Yeah but they won fvck all with RVP so suggests Arsenals problems go deeper than a regular goalscorer. They need a Viera type IMO

Agreed. And some centre backs. Sounds familiar that....plymouth wanderer wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Yeah which suggests spending £40M plus on a striker who scores less than RVP isn't going to be the answer to all Arsenal's worries......plymouth wanderer wrote:BWFCI wouldn't you say Van Persie should of been the difference for Arsenal? Sure does. They never replaced Seaman either. They get bullied of the park way to often

Re: Diving Arsenal Players - The Least Shocking Admission Ev
I don't disagree with you, given how little in comparison we sold RVP for, its somewhat galling that a season later we are spending far more on a worse player with an attitude problem. I don't deny he's a great player - but for that money I would expect to buy a player with talent AND a good attitude, I don't really know what Wenger is thinking. Smacks a little of desperation, fans want him to get a big name signing, fair enough, and he has tried other avenues which now look to be dead ends, Higuain, Rooney, but really - that much for Suarez? Having said that, my niece and nephew are Liverpool fans so if we do buy him I shall enjoy a little wind up of themBWFC_Insane wrote:I think he was less high profile at the time, so there was probably less of a mass reaction. Also we didn't have the luxury of spending millions on players like Arsenal so any good player signing was welcomed.Gooner Girl wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:

Good example. How did you feel when he joined?
However, I don't think I'd be entirely comfortable with him signing now for us.
Main thing IMO with Suarez is, that £40 or £50M is way way too much to pay for him. Exceptionally talented player, but unlikely to be the regular goalscorer you guys have been missing for so long. For that sort of money you want a player who is going to make the difference between winning trophies and not. I'm far from convinced Suarez is that difference. Just my opinion though.

Mind you, I discovered over the weekend, that Arse'nole have been in the top flight for 86 solid years on the trot - now I haven't checked this yet, so if it's bollocks it's egg on my face, but 86 years in the top flight, 4th last year, in Europe once again, and seven years since last having a trophy. Come on folks, aren't we all just a little bit jealous of that record. I don't get this Wenger bashing - I know he's French and is a dour miserable whingy moany nice person - but he's done miracles with what he's developed and the rock solid financial position.
Just saying, I'm not turning into a gooner or anything!

They do have a very consistent record though, of being really quite good, I think I'm right in saying they've won at least one trophy in every decade apart from the sixties since the 1930's. They've got seven years to win a League Cup or something to keep that up.
