It's the Dinosaurs own fault for polluting the planet. And don't get me started on those Mammoth feck* during the ice age. Driving in around in big fecking gas guzzlers, warming the planet.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories (normally) but how do we know that some high in the food chain scientists who can influence the wider community haven't been influenced themselves by conglomerates trying to control energy output and profiteering. Then the other scientists piggy back on it to ensure they don't appear stupid?

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists, so that's the oil guys, have a neutral stance on climate change as a whole (saying some of their members believe in it, some don't) but they agree that human activity is definitely one factor in rising carbon dioxide levels which are also definitely happening.

If the oil guys are saying maybe, then it's probably true.

No-one says it isn't happening, the key question appears to be whether or not it is us.

Whilst we don't know if it is or isn't, it seems nuts not to try to cut our emissions. If it is us, great; if it isn't, we've still become more efficient and saved a load of resources.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

The vast majority of influential and powerful industries would surely be pushing scientists to go the other way? The trouble with conspiracy theories is, it gives folk a chance to believe whatever they like with absolutely zero evidence and an almost impossible position to reconcile with facts.

We're being told we need to use less of it (energy). So we're being charged more for it. If they're charging more for it, but the end user usage is the same as it always was (which seems the case) then they'll be raking it in.

Like I say, probably not oing to buy into it. It's just a theory.

Have you any idea how much Carbon Monoxide your average Wooly Mammoth pumps out in a day?

But that is not helping the profits of those companies just boosting the tax of governments. And most industries want to be able to burn as much oil gas and shit as they like without penalty and also to be able to freely distribute goods without paying extra fuel tax to governments.

Industries that create carbon emissions directly will hardly want to encourage greener ways of manufacturing or greener end products.

Not IMO anyhow.

absolutely zero.
It does however (or rather did) pump out 5000 litres per day of carbon dioxide and a further 7000 litres per day of methane. Why do think the ice age ended?

I think it's the other way around, we're being charged more for energy and are told to therefore use less of it.

Let's say I run an electricity generator and am prepared to sell what I produce. By doing that I incur fixed costs. Those are the cost of the original equipment, allowance for its maintenance and eventual replacement. Add to that the installation and maintenance of the distribution network (poles, wiring, cables, sub-stations, safety fall back and switching gear). Then there is the staff to run the system. Engineers, technicians, builders, riggers, clerical, plus, no doubt, many more of whom I am unaware. Maintenance involves a lot of equipment - from simple tools to not simple tools and then bespoke tools. It also needs many vehicles of which many will be specialised. I am quite sure that is not a full list, but let us pretend for the moment that it is.

When I started the business I could charge, say, 15p per kilowatt/hour which would cover the above mentioned expenses. What happens if the demand for my electricity starts to fall as a result of more efficient use by my customers?

But what is going to cause your customers to use electricity more efficiently? Maybe they're environmentally friendly, but I'd say it's most likely to be due to an increase in price.

They can get away with it because people are always going to use electricity, demands relatively inelastic. Same goes for petrol/cigarettes/alcohol. That's why you know when the government are bullshitting when they pretend taxes on these things are pigovian in nature.

Take a look at the video below that article... a haunting glimpse into a Tibetan sky burial. It kind of puts wanky bankers and qatada's lawyers into a different perspective, well at least for me. And I feel kind of inspired (to have a sky burial myself when the time comes) and slightly sick (especially after visually interpreting exactly what is going on in that final lingering still shot).

A Pigovian tax (also spelled Pigouvian tax) is a tax levied on a market activity that generates negative externalities.
