Liverpool laughing stocks?

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Oh before, absolutely before ... as Liverpool have already spent or are spending the money they expect to get for him.

Also, it would leave him at a club who's fans he's pissing all over ... and the sight off him telling everyone how he loves the club and was simply misunderstood would be an absolute delight.

I have to say a nice season (not to say career) ending injury would be the icing on the cake.
See, I still couldn't wish this on anyone - not even Suarez.

It's times like this that remind me I still have a long way to go to graduate to your level!

Heard he got a "great ovation" from the Kop. What are they playing at?

I think they are pretty sure that they are the best fans in the world and that, given time, any player would want to play for them over pretty much any other club - given that they are the most knowledgeable and most witty and the funniest fans in the world - and they also sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" - which is worth more than anything to a Liverpool player, in fact they'd play for free just for the knowledge that they are adored by Liverpool fans...

Double bluff. One of their mates was nicking his fancy wheel trims whilst he was distracted by the adulation*.

King Kenny's spending spree was pretty spectacular wasn't it.

It was the brilliant appointment of Damien Comolli as director of football strategy - he really knew what he was doing that fella. I reckon I know what it was, 35 million in lira was about 10p, he was just getting mixed up with his exchange rates.
That's not a leopard!

Suarez has come out and said he was promised to be allowed to go to a Chumps league team were Liverpool to fail on reaching the top 4 last season. Claims the £40M clause IS a "buy out" clause and he wants out to Arsenal.

Now it may be a "technicality" but Arsenal have not yet qualified for the Chumps league.

I don't know where I stand on this. I can see both sides. Liverpool stood by him when very few would have. And that hasn't exactly been just the once either....

On the other hand, 26 year old player at the peak of his game, doesn't want to sit in a mid-table side going nowhere. Can understand that too. And it seems Arsenal are the only ones interested, so........

Anyhow I'm enjoying the dawning realisation from Liverpool fans that they aren't a "special club" that they are indeed just a mid table premiership club for the forseeable and that if one of the "top 4" wants their players, they pretty much are fecked.

Though I'd quite like them to stick him in the ressies. Then Suarez, Liverpool and Arsenal all lose. Oh the options....

Didn't he sign a new contract a year ago? Liverpool were just as shit then. Did he think they were suddenly going to win the league? He's a cretin.

He said the agreement put in place at that time (like the one we did with Anelka) was that if a champs league team came in for him (and Liverpool hadn't made it) he could leave for the set price in the contract. Which is £40M. Liverpool claim that was only a "start negotiations at that price clause".

It seems clear to me that Liverpool have shafted him a bit. Nobody player and agent would surely agree to a "put a price for starting negotiations" in a contract. Makes no sense as it becomes meaningless. So clearly they thought they were getting a release clause. Perhaps Liverpool worded it "cleverly" in the contract.

But I can have some sympathies with Suarez if he feels that giving it another year with an agreement in place hasn't been honoured.

And my suspicion is that despite him being an odious little shit, that Liverpool are failing to honour what was agreed.

I've heard that apparently it needs to be 'above' £40M, and as a result Arsenal have bid £40,000,001. Whether that's true or not though I've no idea.

surely this is cleared up quite simply - by getting out the contract and having a look at the wording?

yeah - that's true - but what is under dispute is whether that triggers a full release clause - or whether that simply allows him to talk to other clubs... Liverpool are saying that the wording does not mean they HAVE to sell him if such an offer comes in and he wants to go...

Doubt it is going to be clear cut. PFA are saying Suarez is correct about the clause, but then they are meant to be on the players side.

I reckon that they had a verbal agreement for a £40M release clause or as Bruce says anyone who bids "over £40M can speak to Suarez", but Liverpool's lawyers have probably worded it in such a way to make it legally ambiguous.
