Play a strong side with just a couple of the kids thrown in. Use it as an opportunity to get Beckford up to full match fitness and the side to develop their understanding. Go for it Whites and lets get as far as we can in this comp

Oh, but what's happened to all the winning mentality / win at all costs stuff that you were spouting in the cricket thread only this very afternoon?

This complete contradiction is something of a forum speed record, and it's up against your own seriously swift competition. :conf:

It cannot, cannot possibly, be worse than Crawley last year. It just can't be.

Why dipstick got another dozen games or so after that I have no idea. They should have left him in the car park and driven back without him.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Not at all. Win what matters. In 9 months time nobody will care what the Shrewsbury result was. Will care where we finish in the league.

Just my view. Did say it wouldn't be popular.

Did you go to the Liverpool and/or Middlesbrough finals?

Aye but this is a somewhat different position right now. Especially to the Boro one.

And I'd not have swapped beating Liverpool for that Reading win. That set the club off.

Who knows if we'd not got promoted?

Anyhow it's my view. Feel free to disagree.

I've got that mental image in my head now. Words don't do it justice.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I went to both Bruce. And I was at Wembley 2 years ago, and I wouldn't swap any of them for anything.

With you on this. A good chance for Beckford and Ngog to get some game time together. Suspect DF will go with Hall and Lee but could give Lee a rest. Hoping Moritz gets a run out. Agree the CB's need some time together with keeper but I think a good opportunity to give Bolger a go with knight (as he capt and not likely to be dropped any day soon). Nothing breeds confidence like winning games, for the team and the fans!

The way I want to see us approach these games is in the way that Allardyce did. Not in BWFC-I's frankly ridiculous - bollocks to it - chuck the kids in and let their hopes and confidence suffer as we bow out, but in the rather more measured - let's give the fringe and the youth players a run out but let's make sure that we have enough on the bench to force the issue if needs be.

Tell me, BWFC-I, what was your view on Megson's line-up for the Sporting Lisbon game?

Do we have to re-tread old ground?

You and I both, LK. My mate Big Matty the Bluenose was, of course, gutted when Brum got relegated from the Prem after they'd beat Arsenal in the League Cup final - but he's seen them triumph in one of the two domestic cup competitions and so have his lads.

I may have seen my team play more PL games than he's seen his, but the last thing I saw us win was the Sherpa Van Trophy against Torquay in 89. ae:)

Was at both finals and the Reading game, Brannigans penalty save turned the clubs fortunes IMO. Not sure we would have had any of the memories and experiences after that.

A simple answer will do thanks. ;)

Megson was 100% correct in what he did and had no choice.

The priority for the club was to stay up. For obvious reasons.

Said so at the time. And am still more than convinced now.

But it's an old and divisive argument.

As a football fan is it not about the memories and experiences we have along the way. Winning does make them better memories but there are only 4 trophies up for grabs each season and our chances of winning one are only ever going to be sparodic as the seasons go by, and that IMO is why the memories and experience are the best part of being a football supporter win loose or draw.

Our Dev. Squad has just beaten Stockport Reserves tonight at Edgeley so I reckon none of the following will play any part in the first team's cup match tomorrow:

Lynch, Threlkeld, Holding, Kellett, White, Kelly, Gregus, Lester, Youngs, Wilkinson, O'Halloran

Wilkinson and Lester scored for us. Lynch spilled a powerful shot (keepers eh?) to allow them to score.

That Gregus lad has played 2 season in the top Czech league and is capped at Czech U21 level.

Exactly, fatigue is hardly a factor right now. We have a fit squad and a manager practised in rotation, so no issue for me. Use the squad by all means, but with a view to progressing. If we get through a few rounds then by all means risk the result by resting tired players, but for now let'try to get some momentum. Did getting knocked out by Crawley help Coyle last season or make matters worse?
For example Beckford and Ngog need games and if they get time on the pitch tomorrow I think they'll be more not less likely to score against Reading on Saturday.

Mears, Bolger, Hall, Evaes to play or on the bench then?

It was one of my bug bears with Allardyce. Too often for cup games he'd throw all the kids in at once (Bury & Tranmere immediately spring to mind), we'd lose and the kids would barely benefit playing in what was little more than a second XI.

I'm genuinely excited at some of the young players in our squad and their prospects of making it for us can only improve imo, the more games they play with the experienced pros
