Is a Project Manager worse than a Management Consultant is surely the next burning issue, isn't it?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I think Management Consultants just squirm using bigger words. Often in direct alignment to the increase in daily rate.Lord Kangana wrote:Is a Project Manager worse than a Management Consultant is surely the next burning issue, isn't it?
They're both good sport.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I've never been a project manager but I've worked alongside a couple. This was in a bank's IT department (Hi, Barry, Graham). Oddly enough I had a head-hunter after me at one stage for a project manager's job. I would have taken it if it had come to an offer, but when talking to the 'scout' I was quite open about my dislike of meddling by senior management as I'd seen the stress it can cause. Nevertheless I think I was more relieved than disappointed when an offer didn't materialise. In retrospect I now wonder whether it might have been a less stressful position than my previous role as manager of the credit card customer service department of the same bank.

Anyone with 'Consultant' in their job title is basically unemployed.

Can't remember the name for one who blythely tells a customer on the phone that he' ll have something on his desk by 9-am next day.....15 minutes after the post has gone. He/she then want to have a paddy at the price of couriers, as if that's to blame. They were the originators of the notice on the mail room door, that said:
" A xxxx up on your part does not necessarily constitute a crisis on mine"

the Oxford fecking Dictionary of fecking English has added a supplementary meaning to its entry for the word "literally"
Pedants are reported to be “in uproar” because the Oxford English Dictionary has added a new definition to its entry for the word literally. In a “colloquial” sense, it is “used to indicate that some (frequently conventional) metaphorical or hyperbolical expression is to be taken in the strongest admissible sense: 'virtually, as good as’; (also) 'completely, utterly, absolutely’. Now one of the most common uses, although often considered irregular in standard English since it reverses the original sense of literally ('not figuratively or metaphorically’).”

Lost my railcard meaning I don't think I will be able to go to the game tomorrow despite having already purchased match tickets and train tickets (which require a railcard).
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

F*ck it. Good on them. We might as well have stuck with Mr Johnson's version otherwise? Discuss.

I'm relaxed about this. The OED records current usage, which is a job that is bigger than being an arbiter and a style guide.Prufrock wrote:F*ck it. Good on them. We might as well have stuck with Mr Johnson's version otherwise? Discuss.

I reserve my right to not like it (and act accordingly) when people use language in a way that doesn't accord with my tastes, but I can't ask much more of the OED than a little note along the lines of "this is not considered regular usage".

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
hmmm... whilst this is true - there are boundaries... does the same apply to spelling in common usage - or the new meaning of "squid" - as in "damp squid" to mean something that fails to live up to expectation...mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I'm relaxed about this. despite my sweary rant - I understand that the OED simply reflects usage and does not legislate language - my anger was that it has now gone so far as to be accepted - but the OED DOES make decisions about what to include and what not to include - it isn't totally the servant of the ignorant populace!
