Bolton fans were massed behind the goal in question.

Whatmore thumped the bugger right into the corner. Uproar, total uproar.

Days of optimism and amazement.
Not to make you fell old Bobo but it was 1977. I remember my dad still buzzing the morning after and promising to take us all to Wembley. I could have returned that 'favour' and taken him to the Stoke game
Indeed. As I was 10, and not allowed to go, I remember listening to the radio commentary, tucked up in bed listening via my old red plastic radio. I shot up when Whatmore scored. :oyea:

Absolutely, my bad memory.

I went from Uni in Leeds with a mate who was footy mad & a Chelsea fan as well. It was a Tuesday night game and it was clear that the last train back to Leeds wasn't catchable unless we left after about 60min. We planned to sleep at the station but I met a mate who was at Uni in Liverpool & we stayed at his. We got a morning train, into Leeds about 10.30am, dashed up to the Uni, got onto a coach taking the football team to Newcastle for a match there ... calling by our place to pick up our kit.

Won 3-0 so, all in all, a great 24 hours.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Was a great, great night. Until I got lost behind the gladys (?) Gladws (?) end, and made the mistake of asking whereabouts the coaches were parked. A kicking of kickings ensued. ( I was all of 17). And when lay bleeding on the ground after the pack had worn themselves out, a girl, yes, a girl, followed by her boyfriend; both spat on me and called me a 'dirty Bolton bastard'. Later, when half concussed and stemming claret; I was safely esconsed on the coach, I saw old men, fathers with daughters, young boys, cuts oozing blood, bruises swelling on them all. For that, I will never forget. For that, I will always hold the scouse sh*ts in total contempt.

Anyway, I loved Les Ferdinand barrelling through United's defence and Tim Howard to score. And Kev's shimmy to meg Ferdinand and roll it past Van Der Sar. And Nolan's crashing volley to beat them on their own ground. But, continuing in a vein which the quicker among you may have spotted, mine would be Jay Jay's knocking it over Beckham's head and waltzing past Roy Keane in one motion. It actually felt like we were better than the f*ckers.

Was at that one with my boss at the time and had three kids along. We got ambushed by a mob of loonies hell bent on kicking shit out of anybody with a Bolton shirt or scarf on. Have to say two mounted coppers saved our bacon and we managed to scramble through to where the mini mafia had scrounged a quid out of us for not setting fire to the car. Brilliant night for the football but iffy getting out of there.
