What are you eating and drinking tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

Quick question, can you make mushy peas from normal peas because I have a feeling you need some kind of special peas but thought I would ask anyhow.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

What exactly are 'normal peas', Dan? Fresh? Frozen? Tinned? Marrowfat? Black-eyed? Pigeon?

Have you looked on Google?

Frozen, it says your best of using Marrowfat but it doesn't say you have to use marrowfat so I thought I would ask.

This afternoon Mrs BP will be mostly doing a couple of sirloins in pepper sauce. For my part, i'll be doing the chunky chips and onion rings.

For the bon viveurs, gourmands and take-away jukies amongst us, I've discovered this;

If you go onto the Food Standards Agency's website it allows you to search by individual town. As such you get to see their hygiene rating of every single outlet throughout the town that's serving food of any sort. You've probably seen their stickers on windows and doors as you go into a place, grading it from 0 to 5. At least you know where you stand a half a chance.

It's also, perhaps more importantly, guide as to where you should most definitely avoid.

Here's everywhere within Bolton Council's area of remit.

Interesting Bruce. One of thr first places I looked up was Curry Korner on Chorley Old Rd, one of whose curry's gave me an assquake that was off the Richter Scale. Unsurprisingly it had a 0/5 rating.

i hate having to burst people's bubbles in such a blunt (or pointed?) fashion, but those ratings mean the square root of f*ck all. It would take way too much of my time to list the many, many reasons why, but for a kick off, much of what you do is based on due diligence - so you could have mice, rats and cockroaches crawling all over your establishment (and trust me that many, many old buildings in London and elsewhere do) and still get 5 stars as long as you have a set of standards in place that try to combat this. The wiser amongst you will probably recognise the weasley nature of that.

Secondly, I used to work at a place that had 5 stars, and had never seen sight nor sound of an EH Officer for years. They gave a phone interview one time, in which, perhaps surprisingly it may seem to some, our GM told them we were ace with our hygiene standards.

Isn't it just?! And quite alarming. Thing is though, the place you mention has been visited and, as unfortunately borne out by your own experience and as recognised by the FSA, isn't in any sort of condition to serve food fit for human consumption, so how come they're allowed to? Why weren't they stopped from trading immediately?

Wife did a birthday special today after a pre glass of Spanish sherry.:

Prawn cocktail starter: prawns, lettuce and thin sliced beef tomato with lashings of seafood sauce.

Fried rump steak with sliced fried mushrooms and onions, garden peas and roasties (boiled till they were almost falling apart then lightley roasted, just the way I like em) All topped with a creamy peppercorn sauce.

Sweet was individual Cherry Chocolate Sundaes (Morrisons actually, but bloody good) and a glass of chilled Liebfraumilch.( Wife had some alcoholic pink stuff that looked like Cherryade?)

Not yer Gordon Ramsay, but did very nicely for me, thank you.

See now that explains why some bad places get good marks but it adds a part a) to Brucie's part b).

a) How the feck does anyone manage to get 0/5, then?

b) Why are they allowed to sell people food?

They do inspect places. A whole lot less frequently, I would suggest, than the general public are even remotely aware of. Due to cuts, I'd say a decent average is once every 18 months if you're lucky. Obviously larger venues and "at risk" places (such as a zero) will get it more often. but its really more arbitrary and contrary then I know you'll all think. Think of a referee in a football match.

The standards are a lot lower than the general public might wish them to be.

And Bruce, do you honestly expect any government, particularly a Tory one, to be passing legislation that will summarily close businesses down?

Fair enough. Shitting through the eye of a needle for 24 hrs put me off the place more than the rating.

That site let's you know exactly when they were last visited. When I read the general trends in terms of low points scored it actually tallies with my own preconceived judgement - Never under any circumstances eat anything from anywhere on Bradshawgate, Deane Rd, St Helens Rd, Derby St, Wigan Rd or Allen's Fried Chicken.

As such, LK, I'm happy to use it as a guide in that I know nothing about most food establishments/take-aways in Bolton.
