Re: The athletics/running thread
Managed to improve my Bolton parkrun time by 25 secs to 18:44 today. Training hard starting to pay off and feeling fitter. Got 3 races in 3 weekends now, looking forward to them a bit more. Hope they will take my mind off the bollocks football I've been watching!

Some finish by Mo there in the GNR. Always looked too late but he made a race of it. Fair play to Geb as well, Over 40 world record of less than 61 minutes. madness!

Yes, the impressiveness of that time mainly lies in the courseGary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:Managed to improve my Bolton parkrun time by 25 secs to 18:44 today. I can't say that I've had the pleasure. I'd take 18.44 on any bloody course myself though!

How's your running going at the moment Bruce? Did you start again like you promised?! Gym?Bruce Rioja wrote:My PB's 29:33 on the Leverhulme Parkrun, you young, skinny, athletic c*nt.Prufrock wrote:I can't say that I've had the pleasure. I'd take 18.44 on any bloody course myself though!
Re: The athletics/running thread
i don't remember Bruce promising to take up running again! is that true??
Re: The athletics/running thread
Haha! Brilliant backhanded compliment. It is a nasty course though, will have a pop at the Worsley Woods one after this run of club races. Supposed to be a lot more forgiving.Bruce Rioja wrote:My PB's 29:33 on the Leverhulme Parkrun, you young, skinny, athletic c*nt.Prufrock wrote:I can't say that I've had the pleasure. Quite tempted to have a go at the bolton parkrun again on the 27th - back up that week, and i know my old man and sister have started doing it, too, so will be good to test myself. Kinda worried though as I've not ran any meaningful distance for nearly a year, i reckon, mainly been playing football and going to the gym instead, so i do wonder how close to my pb i would be, if at all.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I did a 10k race yesterday near home in 44.37 (a course pb). I was beaten into 31st place by a Mohamed Farah.LeverEnd wrote:Thank you. What's up next for you? More tri or running only?

Next week I have Eton Dorney sprint relays (triathlon) which is a team of three doing each discipline in turn 400m lake swim, 15k bike and 5k run.
I'm doing Birmingham half in October and St. Neots Half in November. Add to that the cross country 10ks and one more sprint tri that should take me nicely up to Christmas. ;0)
And Pru? I wasn't belittling the time. I have done this course and have been up to 2 minutes outside my PB. Which means LeverEnd, on a flatter course, could be a 16 minute 5k runner. THAT's impressive.

I know you weren't GtE, I was just trying to convey my dismay that there are people who don't react with loathing admiration at the fact that time begins with a 1, no matter the course!

I've volunteered to marshall at that one. Make yourself known and I'll shout at you. Nicely and encouragingly that is. I'll even do an animated Owen Coyle handclap as you go past.mrkint wrote:Quite tempted to have a go at the bolton parkrun again on the 27th - back up that week, and i know my old man and sister have started doing it, too, so will be good to test myself. Oh indeed. I'd (almost) kill for a 5k time beginning with a 1. I raced a flat 5k the other week and was 6 secs outside my p.b.
SIX F*cking seconds.
