Is it we just don't have enough leaders & winners ?
Ok the debate about whether its the players or Dougie that are at fault is going around in ever decreasing circles. IMO all our players are more than good enough for this league technical ability wise
In the match verdict, the BN refers to the passing around of the captains armband and the abscence of anyone with obvious leadership qualities willing to take it on. To me this is bob on and has been a recurrent theme for a number of seasons - I certainly recall Megson lamenting the lack of anybody in the abscence of Nolan.
When I think back to our last chmpship winning team - you could have given the armband to more than half of them and they would have snapped you hand off to have it. Winning the individual physical battle provided the platform for winning the game. Couple of occasions stick in my mind from Saturday - one with chungy, another with Ngog where they simply couldn't be arsed competing for the ball
Not sure whether its down to the changing nature of the game, the players now coming through or just the ones we've selected but we just don't seem to have it, I think we need it, its not something than can be coached. so its not an easy one as to where we can suddenly get it

Captains don't mean a thing unless anyone's prepared to take notice of them. There has to be a communal/team desire to play together and win, not grown men shouting at and blaming each other for errors. I've always been a fan of finding a solution rather than a victim, but it seems the latter happens more than the former in today's game. Perhaps the lot of them need a dose of encouragement to be a team and play like one rather than worrying who's wearing the armband?

Yes, we're missing leaders on the pitch. It's obvious we are. Yes, it's a team game, but what we're needing is that one person who'll stand up and take the team by the scruff of the neck.
Think back to when we were great, Tango. We had umpteen different captains on the pitch. At the height of Big Sam's era, we had Nolan, SKD, Speed, Okocha, Campo, Ngotty, Djorkaeff...I could go on. All of them were capable of commanding the team. Who do we have in the team now that genuinely stands out as a "lead the team through fire" captain?

Well if it, the armband, could be given to one of the youngsters or even Bogdan. If none of the senior players can be arsed then don't let them do it. In fact if any of the senior players had any balls they'd be round the BN complaining about the problems..or is it just too easy to sit on their bums and pick up their salary. Be a bit bloody different if they were paid on performance.

Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.

My point exactly the players don't seem to get on and lets be honest it is a joke that Knight is a captain, you can have the best team in Britain but a poor captain and a team who don't like each other the extent where there is no harmony within the team is not going to get you very far. Successful teams are those who want to play for each other, the manager and the club without these there is never going to be the desire to respond to set backs and having Zat Knight as captain means there is nobody to rally the troops at the best of times.TANGODANCER wrote:Captains don't mean a thing unless anyone's prepared to take notice of them.
