I'd make you make the effort, put your gruds back on and walk down to the restaurant, myself.

Made it back in one piece, thank you. Taking off and landing was a bit rough but when in the air it was fine.Bruce Rioja wrote:Are you still alive, Malcd1?malcd1 wrote:I don't care if the flight is cancelled. In fact quite the opposite. I really don't like flying but it wouldn't put me off if I need to go anywhere. I am flying to Dublin first thing Monday morning and will be back the same day. So two flights.
The Met Office are saying it will be up to 47mph winds and heavy rain. White knuckle ride and sweaty palms again.
Now St. Petersburg on Monday. Dry up to Sunday. I'll be expecting a foot of snow by midweek.

I often feel sorry for Project Managers when they clearly don't have the tools to work with - you know, the sort of people that don't understand that stuff needs delivering on time....Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Are you behind on your milestones?mrkint wrote:The lad's on fire today.mrkint wrote:Project managers.

The PM is the tool in this case, though.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Work tried to push me in the direction of project management when I was a graduate but I didn't fancy being the guy who rang up every 5 minutes to ask where this fits in with your current workstack priorities.

Can I ask when and why the word 'action' replaced the word 'do'. As in 'Can you please action that?' 'Oh I'd love to, except it's a noun, so I can't really'

It's also a verb (transitive):Beefheart wrote:Can I ask when and why the word 'action' replaced the word 'do'. As in 'Can you please action that?' 'Oh I'd love to, except it's a noun, so I can't really'
to put into effect; take action concerning
and has been used for decades at the very least, as in for example when a movie director shouts through his megaphone "and... action"

In that example he's not really telling them to 'lights' or 'camera' though?!

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
But surely in that context the verb is 'to take'? Also, dictionaries get updated to include definitions just because a lot of people use the word incorrectly! Enough people use the word random when describing something that is in no way random, e.g 'Then we went to this random pub!', that such a definition gets added. See also the word irregardless despite it not even being a word.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:It's also a verb (transitive):Beefheart wrote:Can I ask when and why the word 'action' replaced the word 'do'. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
It's definitely in the OED as a verb transitive, and it's not a recent thing. And looking up my paper dictionary I see that the example I randomly plucked out of the air irregardless, is actually an interjection and not the use of the word as a voib.Beefheart wrote:But surely in that context the verb is 'to take'? Re: Today I'm angry about.....
But irregardless has a prefix and suffix that cancel each other out. So it's stupid, and people nly ever say it when they mean regardless.
