They might mean irrespective...

It's also a verb (transitive):
to put into effect; take action concerning

and has been used for decades at the very least, as in for example when a movie director shouts through his megaphone "and... action"
But surely in that context the verb is 'to take'? Also, dictionaries get updated to include definitions just because a lot of people use the word incorrectly! Enough people use the word random when describing something that is in no way random, e.g 'Then we went to this random pub!', that such a definition gets added. See also the word irregardless despite it not even being a word.
It's definitely in the OED as a verb transitive, and it's not a recent thing. And looking up my paper dictionary I see that the example I randomly plucked out of the air irregardless, is actually an interjection and not the use of the word as a voib.
It is in the OED and given three senses - one is Caribbean usage, one is rare and one is business jargon (which is precisely what Beefy was complaining about).
1. trans. To bring a legal action against. Now chiefly Caribbean.

2. trans. To act upon physically; to move, manipulate. Also: to perform as a physical action, to act out. rare.

3. trans. Esp. in business jargon: to take action on, to deal with; to put into effect.
So I think those who object have a case.

^ yes - but this is the angry thread - it's just a place to be angry - you don't need to state a rational case for that anger - that spoils everything!!

Also, when did 'granularity' replace 'detail'? Granularity sounds like something pretentious to say when talking about instant coffee.

That's another thing, when did people start using wanker to mean knobhead when it should mean onanist?

Tee-hee. No-one corrected him yet ?

... 7 yes, that poor words or phrases get used often enough they then appear to be acceptable words and actually added to dictionaries pisses me off.

A lot.

Today, I've been given a shiny, New, iphone5. Im not special, everyone has been given one, around thirteen of us at 500 quid a pop. I'm not sure why we've got them as we've very little use for them, or the new lap tops, ipads or other stuff, seeing as we have no work plan and. Have had very little to do since April 1st. Last week I took a conservative guess on looking around a half empty office. About 400k in salary doing not much. Welcome to the slimmed down, efficient, New, reorganised, NHS.

Is the giveaway there that you used the phrase "looking around the office"?

We seem to have corporately caught something called cadence meetings. I was interviewing someone the day before yesterday and asked the bloke if he knew what a cadence meeting was. Had he said yes, he was probably done for.

What is a cadence meeting? You sing important solos towards the end?
