Last week I took a conservative guess on looking around a half empty office. About 400k in salary doing not much. Welcome to the slimmed down, efficient, New, reorganised, NHS.
I don't follow.

Are you saying there is nothing for them to do and never has been?
More or less, yes. Its picking up slowly. Very slowly. Thankfully, it looks like it'll be a comfortable few months as they've just ordered my new office chair. If I told you how much they've Spunked on it, you'd be as appalled as I am. Meanwhile, still no idea from the top just what we are supposed to be doing.
But what did you all do before the reorganisation?

We were all part of NHS teams that became defunct on 31st March with the restructure. Amazingly, all of the teams were working successfully, but then that's never been a reason not to restructure something in the public sector.

Amazingly, where we once had ten provider organisations in the local `internal market` the efficiency cuts have now left us with er, 23.

Shop check out assistants who, moments after you've put your credit card in the machine and read the instruction 'Enter your PIN' and lifted your hand to start entering your PIN, say "Enter your PIN".

It irks me even more when, at that very point, they request tautologously that I enter my PIN number!

Some thirty-five years ago I rented a car in Paris, drove (for the first time in France) down the Champs Elyssées and entered the massive roundabout at the Place de la Concorde. I knew which exit I wanted to take but this did no good. The rules of the French road then were priorité au droit. People came flying on to the roundabout from the right blocking me from getting into the exit lane on the right. It was terrifying. I must have gone round the thing four times before I finally put my indicator on, stamped on the gas, breathed a prayer and headed for my exit. I made it safely. Every other country I have driven in generally gives priority to those on the the roundabout which is the only sensible thing IMHO.

That sounds uncannily like my bridge adventure in Ruoen, Monty. I wanted to cross the Seinne and get into a right turn lane. Each time I tried, just like you, the lunatic drivers ignored my signals and forced me left. I crossed and recrossed the bridges four times before doing just what you did, saying fxck it and just forcing my way in. Much horn-blowing waving of arms and threats to cut those English archers fingers off, but I was away and clear.....
eventually.

"Unexpected item in the baggage area"

....unexpected, because most folk just use the self-checkouts to pass things from their basket, straight into their carrier bags.

I can recall in the 1980's my mates mother, not the secureist of drivers on a straight road with no traffic on it, executing a perfect left off a roundabout and onto a downramp of a subway, in a Mini...
