I saw more of those Citroens in England I think. Paris had the big brothers traveling very fast. I had rented a Renault 5 so was a snail by comparison. The French like their horns too.TANGODANCER wrote:Were you by any chance surrounded by an army of those upside-down prams on wheels. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I detest roundabouts with more than one lane. When aware that I'm approaching such a devilment it's the left lane well before arrival for this little black duck. Like some of you I have found myself on too many occasions on a merry-go-round when in heavy traffic to now risk an outside lane. It's all good and well for the Rules of the Road to advise signalling and then moving from an outside lane in preparation for exiting, but do the people who devise such theoretical nonsense drive a car? There is a constantly changing phalanx of one and a half tonne metal fire breathing monsters circulating on one's left; there is an alarming series of repetitive road signs demanding your attention; there is a normal world, doing what a normal world does, outside the cyclonic roundabout while you are stuck in some sort of time warp.
Large multi-lane roundabouts are the work of evil doers.

I am thinking that some of our members aren't up to driving properly !!!!

OK, clever clogs clown, how do you navigate off a roundabout when in the inside lane when it's nearly impossible to change to the outside lane due to a constant stream of vehicles blocking your path? Keep in mind that the space taken up by an exiting vehicle is filled immediately by another one entering the circle. It seems to me that one is reliant on some astute driver acknowledging your position and leaving a gap for you to fill and then peel off. "I'm all right, Jack" seems to be the mind-set of the majority of drivers in my neck of the woods.
Roundabouts work well in most traffic situations. It's when there is heavy, peak hour type, movements that the system seems to be somewhat lacking.

You should try driving round them here. Most of the eejits on the road don't know what they are, let alone how to navigate one. There is a 6 lane one in town that is especially fun. Inside of the roundabout until almost 90 degrees from the exit they want and they attempt to turn off across all the lanes is a favourite. Most common is missing the exit and reversing back!

Quite harmless little fellas. I always try to catch them, and big spiders, and release them outside. Now the wife......That's a different tale. She has the screaming hab-dabs at either (although since I showed her the glass trick she hasn't been bad for a while).....But....bobo the clown wrote:Daddy-long-legs. That's all.
That could all end shortly if she clocks the Spider from Mars that's currenly prowling around in dark places in our house. He is a biggie, I kid you not, well over two inches across the legs. He appeared on top of a book near my pc last night and I thought I had him with a piece of kitchen roll, got to the back door and he was gone. Thing is, I daren't mention him to the wife or she'll evacuate he premises and want to call in Spiderbusters.

Some redbacks have been spotted in my compound recently. Any idea where I can get some chain mail gloves so I can do the gardening

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
We had a spider in our house that looked like the sort you would get in a country house, twice the size of a daddy long legs if not more. Its body and legs were the size of an apple! Also I should mention that Hobo has a spider named after him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobo_spiderTANGODANCER wrote:Quite harmless little fellas. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
There are some big b*stards about this year! At 4am the other morning my wife was reading her kindle in bed, as she does when sleep evades her, and this huge spider walked across the screen. She isn't normally one for making a fuss but she screamed, folded the kindle closed and chucked it across the room. I shot out of bed as if the Hound of the Baskervilles was coming up the stairs! Normally my wife wouldn't harm a hair on the head of any creature but this poor spider joined the choir invisible earlier than its appointed time - and I very nearly joined it! The kindle though, survived.bwfcdan94 wrote:We had a spider in our house that looked like the sort you would get in a country house, twice the size of a daddy long legs if not more. This thread is terrifying, and not the spiders! No-one over the age of 65 should be allowed to drive!

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
In viewing British accident rates by age I note that 17-18 year olds are twice as likely to have accidents as those in thirties, three times as risky as someone in their forties and six times as risky as people aged fifty and over. So my young agist pig friend I suspect we should also not give licenses to those under 30.Prufrock wrote:This thread is terrifying, and not the spiders! however.... young 'uns may have most of the actual accidents - but I bet 9/10 of them are CAUSED by Mr 80yr old hat-man crawling out of a junction or pootling along Paignton seafront at 15MPH - thus driving the rest of us to attempt more risky overtake manoeuvres...

over here - you may not know this - 17-18yr olds are pretty much priced out of being able to drive by utterly ludicrous insurance quotes...

Pete Townsend, famous (amongst other things) for the line "Hope I Die Before I Get Old" ffrom 'My Generation' was asked how he felt about that these days.TANGODANCER wrote:Save a copy and re-post it on your 65th birthday.Prufrock wrote:This thread is terrifying, and not the spiders! He said he still felt the same, just that his view of 'old' has altered.
