Way to go.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Look, the opportunity to tell them which shelf to stick it on, whilst they're there, doesn't come around very often. I can recall going into one meeting with a certain manager and they were convinced they had me by the bollocks, because I had a sizeable bonus owing, that they needed to pay me (unless I departed). Smug bastard sat their grinning at me with his gaffer in tow. I told them they could stick the bonus on the shelf opposite. Twice in my career an employee has had the pleasure of telling me just how far up my jacksie I could stick his job and that it was the best day of their career as they sailed off to their new employer while I knew we were busy acquiring their new Company.
Now THAT felt good.

Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
pretty sad...
a lovely bloke - friend of mine and member of one of our churches - he's the boss at this firm in Brixham which is now to be closed - with the loss of 71 jobs...
http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/B ... story.html
he has been fighting tooth and nail to come up with an alternative for three months now, all to no avail... he was on the phone this evening literally in tears - he has had to spend the day telling 71 people that they will lose their jobs with little prospect locally for similar employment...
he's a fab guy and a great boss - so much so that many of the people he had to give the news to today were actually sympathising with him over how hard it must be for him to tell them... it's gutting for him - for them and their families and the town - where Zeneca were probably the largest single employer... (certainly of well-paid work)
his job is safe - but he will probably be relocated out of the south west - where he and his family are well settled, - one of his daughters just starting year one of GCSEs...
anyway - really gutted for him

That's really sad Bish
I suspect, despite claims to the contrary, the full impact of the recession will be biting us for quite a while yet.

That's a damned shame, thebish. Obviously the article to which you linked is limited, but nowhere was it mentioned that the unit was not viable. The impression that I got was that it is now outside the parent company's interests and (probably) an unwanted drain on management resources rather than a drain on finances per se. From the sound of it it's operating in a niche market - a market that needs its expertise. I hope for your friend's sake that some forward thinking company or entrepreneur will turn up and buy the business lock, stock and barrel.

Just got this week's 'Hot Ticket Update' through from Ticketmaster and the only acts on it that I'm familiar with are Status Quo and Suzanne Vega.

May the bridges I burn light your way

Where's Vega playing Bruce? Saw her in 89 and she was outstanding. Would be good to see if she has matured well.

Given how close she is I tried to see what else was on there, and there's feck all. I'm pretty sure only a few years ago there was something most weeks. Shame, coz I love that place.
