Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

I can't like Chile, all that diving, cheating and deliberate fouling. Can't deny their football though, Sanchez is a class act for sure, but the whole lot of them, man for man, were better than us. Their posession, confidence to beat their man, great running off the ball, space finding and critical passing (even the goalie who never missed a man once all game) made them look a league apart. Roy threw a lot of trialists in, granted, but that can't have done team confidence much good. Nobody's afraid of England any more.

And the Zinedine Zidane headbutt? Our lad gets butted and gets a yellow card? What's all that about?

I think we are still considered a big team so when we go to somewhere like Andorra they will certainly put in that 10% extra against us.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

England, 'experimental' or not , just got thoroughly and comprehensively, turned over by Chile.

If anyone passes Ridgmont cemetary up near Bob's Smithy today and hears a high pitched whinning sound don't worry. It'll just be my dad spinning in his grave.

If the Yanks beat us to then I'd suggest keeping to Chorley New Road for a day or two.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

he's not gonna be THAT outraged surely - we've only ever beaten them twice - and never by a HUGE margin!

I think I'm right in saying that after Germany we play Denmark next year and that's it before the World Cup. Whoever scheduled that is a genius!

Tough game against South America side (LOSE) + tough game against European side (LOSE) = Zero expectations ahead of the World Cup for the first time in 50+ years.

With low expectations anything almost respectable would mean Hodgson keeps his job. It's almost like someone thought about it and came up with a plan!

Tbh id welcome that. Going to a tournament with the press and media expectations lowered would be a novelty. Most folk I speak to are well aware that we're average at best, yet before every competition we have 'expert' pundits predicting we could win it.

I predict the usual slow start followed by us squeezing through the group stage, then ' unfortunate defeat in the knockout stage.

I'm particularly looking forward to the bit where we sit back and play for penalties.

It'll be different this time.

i think friendlies should go to penalties if necessary - if their purpose is to see how we are shaping up in preparation for a knock-out tournament...

You just get to expect it. Patient defending by Germany and when they do break it's usually a problem. Lucky not to be another down just before the break. Time to play some football that produces goals. Come on England, get stuck in lads.
