So tired you will have to have an early night?!Gary the Enfield wrote:Did St. Neots Half Marathon today.

Really pleased to have broken 1:40 given the last couple of weeks. Had a friend pace me round and he really helped by bollocking me when I needed it most.
Knackered now, though.

Tell me about it - that's what he texted me - with a wink! I've advised Mrs GtE to make a run for it!Burnden Paddock wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:So tired you will have to have an early night?!Gary the Enfield wrote:Did St. Neots Half Marathon today.

Was supposed to run Leeds Abbey Dash today but still injured. If it still hurts in another week I'll start pushing for Xrays and scans like you suggested.

Yes, much better than Birmingham. I guess I'll just have to write that off as an aberration. Take it easy and get yourself checked out as soon as you can.

Managed 7 miles today. The furthest I've ran since May, albeit all of it on a flat road. Averaged 8.08 min miles which I'm pretty chuffed with at this stage in my recovery.
Desperate to get back on the fells mind..

Nice one Harry. Are you running beautifully now after your gait analysis?Harry Genshaw wrote:Managed 7 miles today. The furthest I've ran since May, albeit all of it on a flat road. Averaged 8.08 min miles which I'm pretty chuffed with at this stage in my recovery.

Cheers. It's bizarre really. I keep reminding myself to lift my knees, mid foot strike with fast cadence. The idea being that if you previously was a heel striker, you were in effect braking each time you put your foot down so the faster cadence now shouldn't knacker you out, as there's less resistance.Gooner Girl wrote:Nice one Harry. I don't know if its lack of fitness but I am knackered now whilst I'm running. There's no more gentle jogs, in that every run feels like I'm putting in a lot of effort. Before my injury a gentle 7 miler would have been done at 8.30 or so minute miles. Todays run was much quicker. Hopefully my pace will be quicker than it was, once I'm fully recovered.
Anyway - You going to do that XC this year or not?

Excellent, it is working then. Soon it will become second nature. Probably mean you are less likely to injure yourself again too.Harry Genshaw wrote: Cheers. It's bizarre really. Erm, cross country was today and no, I didn't do it... I DID however instead, buy myself a very pretty new pair of trainers for Mr GG to give me for Christmas. Mostly for work but I may run in them too, they might motivate me.

Good news HG, started jogging again myself. Our paths may cross in Horwich yet.
Off up the Pike tomorrow to watch my mate do his 5th and final trail/hill marathon in 5 days, he's been doing that Hell of A Hill series the mad bugger and deserves the support.

A club mate has been doing that. I'm told its a damned tough course that doing it once would be a big ask but 5 times

Just got back, nice event and really enjoyed it, great camaraderie among the runners. Tremendous guts from my mate as well to finish 5 in a row despite a sore knee from Day 1 and unable to run downhill.Harry Genshaw wrote:Nice one. His wife was first woman and came 3rd overall today as well, so a great family effort all round. They are a talented couple.
And I ran a few miles with him and didn't feel too bad, although the injury has stiffened up a bit I reckon it might be on the mend.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Took the intermediates out for a run tonight which meant I got one in too (though slow as trying to chivvy on tail enders) We were several coaches down - ie only me and a parent helper - but managed to sweet talk the club chairman into coming out who eventually agreed after embarrassing me with some very suggestive innuendo, and had asked one of our faster adult endurance runners out to take the more able on a bit faster and get to know some of the year 10's who will be going into his group early next year in an effort to bridge the gap between the two groups.
I don't know about other clubs, but we lose a lot of young athletes between 15-18 - partly to more interesting things like dating the opposite sex, partly to exams and going away to uni but that's when they go from the intermediate (teenage) group to adult training and I figure it will be a less daunting transition for them if they know some friendly faces, plus there was a bit of hero worship from the 15 year old lads for the late 20's super fast man who took them out, it was very sweet to see!:) my running skills don't inspire hero worship from them, can't think why...

You do seem to inspire that, if not hero worship. Did he look like the old actor from Bruce's picture the other week?Gooner Girl wrote:Took the intermediates out for a run tonight which meant I got one in too (though slow as trying to chivvy on tail enders) We were several coaches down - ie only me and a parent helper - but managed to sweet talk the club chairman into coming out who eventually agreed after embarrassing me with some very suggestive innuendo, and had asked one of our faster adult endurance runners out to take the more able on a bit faster and get to know some of the year 10's who will be going into his group early next year in an effort to bridge the gap between the two groups.

Lever End, he's just a normal middle aged bloke who thinks he's funny. Been like it for years. I told him to shut up and get his trainers on.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Ran Sunday and yesterday. Spent a large chunk of this afternoon reffing football games. Am I hardcore enough to go to footy training this evening? I think the answer is probably no...
