On Tuesday Film 4 has the pretty good Gary Oldman "Tinker, TailoR, Soldier, Spy".
However on that same evening, BBC4 begin to show the utterly superb 1979 version starring Alec Guiness. THAT is the 'must see'. It is, of course, a bit dated, but the whole story is about people who are dated and a bit after their sell-by. Give it a go.
And if you can't wait that long, they are all on youtube!

Very good though, I agree

Started watching The Millenium - Girl With.... trilogy again over the weekend. Seen it all before but this is the extended version. Lots of new bits in there that follow the books much more closely than the cinema release and nothing that I could honestly say shouldn't be in this final cut. Just about half way through and enjoying it very much.

Well spotted Bobo, cheers. Got the Oldman DVD which is great. I'll be having a look at the other one though. Pretty sure I've seen it mind.bobo the clown wrote:... oh, and a head's up.

Being even older than me Tangs you will recall all the fuss about how complicated the original TV series was and how no-one could follow the interwoven plot (which the film, limited to a couple of hours, simply couldn't achieve).TANGODANCER wrote:Well spotted Bobo, cheers. It wasn't, isn't and won't be if you actually follow it.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Always unfairly resent films before I've seen them when they are over hyped like Gravity, but paid my £18 and went along tonight... Blummin'eck, it's effing brilliant!!!

£18?!! Where'd you go, Leicester Square?General Mannerheim wrote:Always unfairly resent films before I've seen them when they are over hyped like Gravity, but paid my £18 and went along tonight... Blummin'eck, it's effing brilliant!!!
Re: What are you watching tonight?
You get charged £14 here if it is a new film and one a lot of people want to see.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I am tempted to see it again, but on I-max. It wasn't some great life changing event (it didn't even have sub-titles) it was just very, very good and technically amazing. Great performances from Clooney and Bullock and overall just plain worth the effort.
I've seen pinch-minded reviews criticising some minor aspects of the technical accuracy and I quote Kermode's response ".... that'll be why it's not a documentary then".
I guess it's not for everyone but if it intrigues you even a little then go & see it.

I'm off to see it on Friday. It seems the kind of movie you really have to see at the cinema to get the full effect.bobo the clown wrote:I am tempted to see it again, but on I-max. Well, not only in the cinema but I would urge at the Imax where it was really quite incredible. We went on a Tuesday afternoon, 4pm at the Printworks and the place was full, so book ahead.Beefheart wrote:I'm off to see it on Friday. Re: What are you watching tonight?
Finally got round to finishing off the "Vegas" series that was on Sky Atlantic earlier in the year. After a slowish start it ended up being a cracking series, although unfortunately it hasnt been picked up for a second series. I'd recommend it, although 22 episodes is a bit of a time consumer. Although it does have the incredibely gorgeous Sarah Jones in it to make it fly by.
Also never ever bother watching a film called "Valhalla Rising", its the biggest pile of crap i've seen in a long while!!!

I was excited about that being an enthusiast of all things 'Vegas’ but sacked it after two episodes. The big gangster fella was unbelievably terrible.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Just been catching up on this. Don't think I've watched more than 5 minutes at a time without cringing, covering my face in embarrassment for Stephen Merchant's character. In a good way!General Mannerheim wrote:I've really been enjoying Hello Ladies on Sky Atlantic.
So much better than anything Gervais has done solo anyway.
The episode where he and his roommate got themselves invited to a dinner party was ridiculously excruciating all around. But all the funnier for it.
