Re: What are you watching tonight?
Watched (most of) the final episode of Byzantium: a Tale of Three Cities. Enjoyed all three episodes, though it felt at times like a fairly fast flick through the centuries, the faiths, the massacres, the idiocies, the glories.
Confirmed my desire to visit Istanbul, though.

That is tomorrow nights viewingthebish wrote:as bruce said - watch the real one!mrkint wrote:Watching the fischer version of Girl with th dragon tattoo.
Think I've seen about 12 product placements in the first half hour
Pretty disappointed with that tbh. A few great scenes but, even at that length, felt very rushed in parts.
Also, that chess scene near the end made me quite angry (even more so Monty) considering the book she was pictured with earlier. Unless it was compassion. Feck knows.

I've never seen a less imaginative remake. They made the Swedish film scene for scene adding a few product placements and making it a bit worse.mrkint wrote:That is tomorrow nights viewingthebish wrote:as bruce said - watch the real one!mrkint wrote:Watching the fischer version of Girl with th dragon tattoo.

Barney having a good match with Jamie caven. Currently 1-1 with 2 sets apiece.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Barney goes through but the big shock is that Taylor has been knocked out.

This is p. 666 of the thread - watch the beast.

One of the music channels has a programme on called 'Jedward's Jepic Jedmas'. Horrendous title aside, I honestly can't think of anyone who has eve been on TV who is annoying as them. It's just cruel that there are 2 of the cnuts.

Oz the great and powerful... on tonight, Sky Premiere.
Is it worth it, anybody seen it? ( I could be doing my backlog of domestic paperwork, otherwise )

If only I knew who she was... some of us older folk don't notice what to younger folk are obvious attractions. Anyway, I shall watch it.General Mannerheim wrote:Mila Kunis is in it. Nothing else matters.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
took the kids out for the annual family tradition of buying some kind of new christmas day outfit each - i get to take the boys and the missus takes the girl - I think she gets the easier task... then family secret-santa shopping in poundland (we know how to live!)...
anyway - to oil the wheels we topped the whole festive extravaganza off with a visit to ye cinema to see Return of the Hobbit II the Desperation of Smog - or summat like that...
bit long - couple of entertaining scenes (barrel scene) and the dragon was well done... but - it seems there's more to come!

I've seen both and thought they were both excellent, with the remake being much better than I thought it would be. It seems to get the typical "the original is better" bullshit treatment.thebish wrote:as bruce said - watch the real one!mrkint wrote:Watching the fischer version of Girl with th dragon tattoo.

Also good to hear 12 Years A Slave getting good reviews, looks excellent. Seems to be a favourite to win best picture at the Oscars, although for me it will have to be extremely good to beat Captain Phillips.

So? Product placements definitely don't make a bad film, and I for one very rarely notice them because its not something that I'm concerned with when watching a film.

Well, Mark Kermode, in today's Observer Review of best films picked out 'Clio Barnard's brilliant The Selfish Giant, a loose interpretation of Oscar Wilde's fable which blended the gritty verite feel of Ken Loach with a strain of poetic transcendence.'
I already liked Kermode. And even more now.
Do yourself a favour. See this movie!

Yeah talks a lot of sense in that article. I'd forgotten about Good Vibrations, terrific film. Still don't get the Act of Killing Talk. Shocking and powerful granted, but gets a but tiresome after an hour...William the White wrote:Well, Mark Kermode, in today's Observer Review of best films picked out 'Clio Barnard's brilliant The Selfish Giant, a loose interpretation of Oscar Wilde's fable which blended the gritty verite feel of Ken Loach with a strain of poetic transcendence.'
