Swines. 2002 was a cracking vintage in Champagne, too.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

What an absurd mountain out of a molehill. The comments on the M&S Facebook page are an amusing (if somewhat terrifying) read today.

I'll be the judge of that, thanks - and I do use Aldi for certain things (I think their cooked meats are the best on offer). No, I haven't seen M&S's fashion offer as it tends to be bloody awful. Pops wants new PJ's for Christmas (seriously) so I did get him some good quality cotton ones from M&S, but didn't have a look around.Hoboh wrote:Like for like Aldi's stuff is just as good if not better and have you seen M&S fashion for blokes?Bruce Rioja wrote:As a general rule of thumb, Hoboh, you pay for what you get.Hoboh wrote:With the prices, stupid more than middle class, unless you have to get ripped off to be middle class that is.Athers wrote:Of course doing your big shop at M&S is middle class!

I was only replying to the 'general' rule of thumb which applys a lot less now than it used too.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'll be the judge of that, thanks - and I do use Aldi for certain things (I think their cooked meats are the best on offer). If you bought a Range Rover at great cost 10 years ago as a rule of thumb, you'd be buying a high end bag of spanners and search for Michael Winners view of Ferrari;
Rule of thumb is now nothing other than marketing to get you to part with more readies! Also, never buy a Ferrari; they're terrible cars. I had one and I won't even start (a little like the car) on the trouble it gave me and the money I had to spend to keep it on the
road.

Whilst wondering what moment I switched from working to middle class I'd not realised I'd moved over into Aristocratic.
Anyway, I've off to tickle some trout.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

The gist is that they're all boycotting M&S from now on - very few seem to realise that this was a mistake and not official policy. The general tone is appalling and is a chilling reminder of how much unpleasantness, resentment and general dim-wittedness is constantly bubbling under the surface in this country.

What DOES appear to have happened is that some woman of Muslim background decided she couldn't bring herself to handle bottles of alcohol or pork and asked ... it seems very politely ... if the customer could use another till where a person happy to handle such products was working.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:https://www.facebook.com/MarksandSpencer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Hoboh wrote:Such as? M&S initially said it backed the worker ... & to be honest, if you were an ordinary store manager I can imagine them supporting her request simply because you feared the shitstorm coming your way and said "sorry pet but that's your job", or even moved her to clothing (notably avoiding any pigskin leather goods of course). The newspapers ran with this ... hey, it'll be a quiet week I guess ... and then went from Supermarket to supermarket to find there were about 3 policies per Company.
I have to say I think it is a poor show. No-one was making her eat the bloody things and I'm not sure a server can decide what they serve. It's hardly like these products are new to the shelves.
Vegetarians can't decline to serve meat to customers, I doubt vegans apply for jobs at abattoirs but if they do they'd have to fulfil the required duties.
To their credit the Muslim Council of GB have said this isn't necessary within Islam and the lady was over-reacting.
I've not read the various comments but I guess they are, generally, quite negative and verging on racist. Can't say I'm surprised if so.

He's owned one, as has one of my mates. As such neither has experience of "them", only of the ones that they owned.Hoboh wrote:![]()

Borrowing against your offshore deposits eh, Hoboh? I'm impressed.

BTW, I have a copy of Winner's Dinners, the compliation book of his restaurant reviews. Of course I was immeiately drawn to restaurants he's reviewed that I've been fortunate enough to eat in. Generally his reviews are incredibly harsh, but ultimately fair if you're someone that makes it your business to be difficult to please, though that stance in itself is something that he argues against, stating that we should all be striving for better food and better service rather than be settling for 'mediocre'. It's an interesting standpoint.

I guess next the Roma will object to be in small confined spaces because their way of live is the great outdoors, so they will continue to crap on the pavements!

Can't agree with you on the veg, Bish. Not at all (or fruit for that matter). Only water I buy is San Pellegrino. Cheese is good from Aldi but the choice is extremey limited. Skimmed milk? Absolutely agree 100% (and is something else that I buy from Aldi / Lidl). Further, I would also say that 'easy drinking' (stop it, William described it to youthebish wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Again - I'll be the judge of that, thanks.
