Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm going to start doing early morning runs again, I think it's just harder and you get more out of them. Probably just a mental thing.
It's my last full year in my 30s so I want to get back to regular racing, and then be in good nick when I turn 40 next year.
Good luck with the gymnastics and pole vault, I'll give that one a miss and stick to pilates!

I wont be taking up the pole vault anytime soon either! I really must do more core work this year but to be honest after a crappy 2013 running wise, I'll just be glad to get back racing again.
Got my eye on the BOFRA fell series in the lakes that starts this Sunday. The 1st couple are more trail/xc races than hard core fell races which should ease me in.

Start your track and field career gently Harry. I'd stick with high jump, hammer and 110m hurdles to ease yourself in.Harry Genshaw wrote:

Sunday will be your first race in a while then? Good luck.

Cheers Mrs. I wont be doing any track & field either. The Hammer would be a laugh mind. I've told you before - I throw like a girl!, even darts! Not sure I could pick the hammer up, never mind chuck it somewhere

It's not sexist. Throwing like a girl - when you're a girl is fine. Not when you're a chap!

And it gets worse with age. I used to be able to fling it in from the boundary, no problem. Now I'll only ever throw a ball for the dog when I'm sure that no-one's watching.Harry Genshaw wrote:It's not sexist. Throwing like a girl - when you're a girl is fine. Not when you're a chap!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Did the park run yesterday and it went pretty well. Didn't push it too hard but was only 90 seconds or so away from where I should be. Used it mainly as a warm up for todays fell race at Kendal. My first fell race in 18 months. Am chuffed to say it couldn't have gone better - knackering with a couple of tough climbs and 1 particular hairy descent in wet and windy conditions but no after effects.
Considering I'm back at work tomorrow I'm one happy bunny tonight

Good stuff HG. I'm putting the training off for another few days after spending the weekend on the bog, but I'll be there in a few weeks I hope.Harry Genshaw wrote:Did the park run yesterday and it went pretty well. Good luck, hope the weather is better for it up there then it is down here. If I tried to run outside today think I might get blown over.CAPSLOCK wrote:Not done a tap for 18 months but tonights the night for another bash at it

Was told by the physio to avoid hills when I start up again, especially downhill. Takes some thinking about.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I've been getting back into the swing of things but feck I can feel it in my leg that got squashed! Not pain as such, it just feels pathetically weak. Gym again tomorrow and hopefully 5-a-side Weds.

Got to join in at harriers tonight. Did the circuits session. Am now knackered, sweaty and in desperate need of a bath and I suspect tomorrow I shall discover muscles I didn't know I had. First exercise of the year.
