Your post is spot on, makes perfect sense.bobo the clown wrote:I meant by decent people. Sorry. I should have been clearer.William the White wrote:The rest of your post is highly contentious. The highlighted is just, demonstrably wrong. And demonstrated by the anger of people at a verdict of lawful killing. I heard of his mother's heartbreak and his aunt's interview on the radio today. I also heard his friends, angry at the verdict, seeking what they view as justice for an unarmed man killed by the police.bobo the clown wrote:Aye, & the Jury are effectively chased out of Court. Too much of this will reduce the viability of Trial By Jury. Then let's hear the screaming.Bijou Bob wrote:Man picks up gun from another gang member, gets stopped by cops and is shot dead. Blowed if I can see what all the fuss is about??
Trust the BBC to concentrate their coverage on the one element that criticises the cops whilst ignoring the violence inside the court.
Following the verdict we have quite competent people seemingly unable to understand the logic of the Jury's views that ;
a). He'd thrown the gun away as they actually stopped him.
b). The Police didn't know this and believed he still had it.
Too many are already questioning these two findings as compatible, whereas they are entirely so.
Feral b'stard won't be missed.
Do they have to ask your permission to mourn the death of a son, a nephew or a friend?
... & I don't see anything contentious in the rest of it. Really I don't.

Yeah "decent" people will be resting easier tonight knowing their custodians can basically shoot on sight any bad guy they like.
why bother with such trivialities as harassment, stop and search, etc etc. Just shoot em all

No arguments from me with that. I have no need to fear our custodians, the ones who do wrong should though.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:Yeah "decent" people will be resting easier tonight knowing their custodians can basically shoot on sight any bad guy they like.

Hang on, surely the thought has crossed your mind "what if we give them such power and they make a mistake?" No?

So due process and rule of law completely unnecessary then?
Why not just shoot suspected wrongdoers then?
Happy with that?

if you believe the secret service (maybe you don't?) then there have been hundreds of bomb plots in the UK since then...jaffka wrote:I think that was discussed on here at the time, go and read it back if you want.thebish wrote:jaffka wrote:I have no need to fear our custodians, the ones who do wrong should though.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:Yeah "decent" people will be resting easier tonight knowing their custodians can basically shoot on sight any bad guy they like.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
not sure what your point is? you are seriously suggesting that shooting an innocent man has solved the bomb terror threat in the UK and that since july 2005 all suicide bombers were thus deterred - and that the fact that there have been no bombs is nothing to do with plots being foiled - merely to do with the deterrence effect of shooting an innocent man??
is that what you are claiming? if not - then what??

I did - and it's not. my point is that the innocent quite clearly DO sometimes have something to fear...jaffka wrote:What's your point in all this?thebish wrote:not sure what your point is? you are seriously suggesting that shooting an innocent man has solved the bomb terror threat in the UK and that since july 2005 all suicide bombers were thus deterred - and that the fact that there have been no bombs is nothing to do with plots being foiled - merely to do with the deterrence effect of shooting an innocent man??

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Erm, correct me if I'm wrong, but we're discussing whether death is a deterrent to a man who's about to commit suicide for something he believes in?
Really, we are, aren't we?

I would suggest that a suicide bomber giving their life up without meeting their intended objective is a deterrent.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:Yeah... suicide bombers terrified about being shot dead those lot.

But they shot him on a train. His supposed intended target.
