because armed police sometimes make mistakes - you might one day have reason to be fearful... others have - like Menezez - he (like you and me) didn't have any obvious reason that day to imagine that he needed to fear armed police...
you have agreed they make mistakes, yes?
it's a very simple point...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
You accusing someone of not quite making their position clear is more than a bit rich.
Of course, if you arm anyone, then accidents, mistakes and misjudgements may occur. I don't actually fear that these armed police are actively seeking to harm me, or the general public. I see that as a distinction.
On this particular case I don't believe the hysterical response of Team Duggan or their supporters. Neither did a jury. A jury, it must be said, who have witnessed a very great deal these past months.
Now .... to your opinion ... & don't obfuscate as you did all yesterday.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

in that case you agree with me entirely. i did not say that armed police are actively seeking to harm me or the general public. i also see that as a distinction. it doesn't mean that they only shoot guilty people though...
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I need to be scared, why. Am I ever going to be the focus of one of their operations? Why would I be I am not a criminal and as far as I am aware don't do anything wrong to a level where an officer sanctioned by the state would have to point a gun at me.thebish wrote:jaffka wrote:

You scare monger all you want, I think you are a disgrace. It's a very simple point

As for telling people what they think, like you just tried isn't that what the Spanish Inquisition did? Looks like it's still going.

But you are scare mongering and trying to tell me to be scared.thebish wrote:bobo the clown wrote:You accusing someone of not quite making their position clear is more than a bit rich.

how on earth have i told you what you think? spanish inquisition?? get a grip!
it's fairly straightforward... no i have not told you that you need to be scared right now - i have simply pointed out the obvious counter to your point that it is not only the guilty who need to fear armed police - sometimes the innocent also have need to fear them, it may be rare, but it happens - because (as you have said) they make mistakes. at the moment that's not you or me - one day it might be - that day has come for other people who also didn't think they'd have a need to be worried (I have offered you some examples.)
you made your point - i made mine - that's how message boards and forums work - in expressing my opinion i am not stopping you expressing yours or telling you what to think - i am merely disagreeing with you.
you don't appear to like being disagreed with.

In fact, an exact same matching set of circumstances to those of de Menezes, or so he thought. Aaaaaaaaaand we're back to square one!jaffka wrote: I need to be scared, why. Well. to use your tactic ... I have never said anything other. You must be mistaking me for someone else on here.thebish wrote:in that case you agree with me entirely. i did not say that armed police are actively seeking to harm me or the general public. i also see that as a distinction. it doesn't mean that they only shoot guilty people though...bobo the clown wrote:You accusing someone of not quite making their position clear is more than a bit rich.

... and YET AGAIN you don't put forward your own position on this matter, simply looking to nit-pick on the very specific point you've used to troll from.

I don't mind being disagreed with but I don't like being told what I think. That is what you did. You are trying to convince me that I need to be fearful, well I'm not. However I will let you quantify it, say out of a thousand. How much should I be scared?
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
You are right we are and that was discussed elsewhere on here and raised by the person who believes that the police are out to kill us all.Bruce Rioja wrote:In fact, an exact same matching set of circumstances to those of de Menezes, or so he thought. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
right now i don't think you should be scared at all, i haven't said you need to be fearful or tried to convince you to be fearful - I have merely said that it is possible that one day you might have reason to be. one day you might have reason to be fearful of armed police - they make mistakes. and if not you (not everything is about you) - then someone else who is just as innocent and lovely as you are... that is all...jaffka wrote: You are trying to convince me that I need to be fearful, well I'm not. If I need to be fearful in the future that means I need to be scared now.
So you are saying I need to be scared, so how much out of a thousand?

not at all. there may come a time when you have reason to be fearful - as with many things in life. there may come a time when you need to be fearful about falling off a cliff - but it does not follow that you need to be fearful before that situation arises... until the situation arises - then you can live your life in blissful ignorance and joyful abandon. (like Menezes did)

So you agree with me that I'm not scared then. Falling off a cliff? Wtf has that got to do with being shot dead by the police?
As for the future, who knows what will happen but I still not see a need to be fearful. Life must be very tiring when you are scared of what the future holds

I still want you to quantify my need to frightened out of a thousand.
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
ok jaffy-chum - i suspect that this breached the tolerance levels of other forum members several pages ago. you don't need to be scared - enjoy your innocent lovely day (oh - and have a lie-down!)jaffka wrote:So you agree with me that I'm not scared then. Yes I agree but I'm going out for a walk, along a cliff face and then to the airport. I will report back later if I am still here.
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I find it interesting that we should be fearful of the police, since there are some bad eggs and also some wrong uns amongst them - and some who make the odd mistake
Should we also be fearful of black men since there are some bad eggs and wrong uns amongst them, too
Or do we just get on with our lives and trust the Police to do their jobs and to be subject to due legal process if and when required - 8-2 in 'favour' of the police, don't forget
Maybe we need to be fearful of jurors, too
