I bought a jumper yesterday. In the sale, still £35. From the M&S Italian 'Collezione' range. In cotton & cashmere. Navy blue base, with a red overlay .... just very nice and feels like the sort of thing you could just stroke forever.

Get it home, take a proper look and it has PATCHES on the elbows. Big, long oval shaped, unmistakable, blue patches. In fact they aren't even fckg patches ... they are just an area around the elbow where the red overlay ceases and so it's all navy blue at that point. A FALSE patch !!

Why would anyone do that ??

Really !! Why ??

Why did I not notice ?

Why was I not mugged and have it stolen from me ?

Well, THAT's going back.

G'day, GD, it's good to see you're still around the site.
Yes, a pillock with dishonour and bar. If that was his meaning then it's a pretty obscure reference when directed to a group of business men who, in all probability, wouldn't have had a clue as to his techno-babble. Any way I won't bang on about it. I had enough of it myself when I was in the finance industry.

LLS has my sympathy for having to sit through such rubbish.

I can't see a problem with patches per se, bobo. Faux patches though are different. Many years ago my wife knitted a lovely woollen jumper (actually it was a cardigan) for me. Like any bespoke piece of apparel it fitted perfectly and was as comfortable as one could hope. I wore it for a season or two and then realised that the elbows were wearing a bit. I liked that jumper so I asked her if she could sew a leather patch on each elbow. She was a bit dubious to start with but finally agreed. I have no idea as to the leather she used - it could have been beef, venison, lamb or pork for all I know - and they turned out a treat. I wore that cardigan for about three decades. It did eventually wear out, but not at the elbows.

Proper elbow patches are practical. They do not detract from the appearance of the garment. They are good things to have.

All in favour say 'Aye'.

They are very 'geography teacher' over here Dujon. ... & though I have a good sense of direction I'm not a geography teacher. All those correys, the skree and rainfall levels.

But worse still ... they are bogus. Not even real.

Unbelievable.

Put what about the right to bare arms?
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

I inferred nothing less ... simply that they have a penchant for elbow patches of the very worst kind.

Though in my day, admittedly some considerable time ago, their obsession with levels of rainfall in different "climes" made it a contradictorily dry subject.

I used to love drawing the destructive plate boundaries or clouds and stuff. What let it down was the 'human geography' on things like the impact of building the Trafford Centre (can I do that in economics please?) or walking round a town colouring in what's a house and what's a shop.

Some kid described the increasingly detached island of hair at the front of my head as being in an ox-bow lake formation. So they're obviously still teaching that shit!
