Indeed, but what happened was the people that ran the Star & Garter took over The Church and fetched their clientele with them.Gary the Enfield wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:We used to go in the Church before it became a poofs pub. I think the landlord and landlady were called Ron and Sheila. They moved to Blackpool, I think. Never went in again after though, of course.LeverEnd wrote: Are you sure it wasn't The Church on Trinity Street?
I always thought the Star and Garter was for men of a certain proclivity?

Yeah, I also worked in Oscar's too. As did my sister. Was a really good crowd. Only thing was, we used to put half our earnings back over the bar with the monumental piss ups we had!Bruce Rioja wrote:Get in, LeverEnd.LeverEnd wrote:Oscar's?Bruce Rioja wrote:Did Gay Nuttall have it then, LK? (That's someone else that I've lost touch with). She also owned another bar underneath what's now Barclay's Bank by the side of the Town Hall.Lord Kangana wrote:I worked in Hawthorns. We used to get ace lock ins 'til well into sunday morning. The longest I managed was lunchtime...some made it til teatime!. And then on the way home, we used to get a curry where the taxi drivers did. At 8, 9, 10 in the morning...
Ah, Memories!
First time I went in Hawthorns when it was a piano bar, Peter Reid and Adrian Heath were sat beyond a velvet rope having a nosebag and a bottle of champagne.
Also Dave (the manager of it all) used to sell White Love from behind the bar (I'm not sure whether he had permission or not) and the lads who were bouncers sometimes used to go straight from work to the games at Burnden. Morning after, like, not same day.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Knowing Me Richard Keys, Knowing You Gianfranco Zola, AHA!

Thought it might be a parody, but it appears not. Particularly enjoyed the subtle image at the top of the page.
Disappointed there is no mention of Bill Oddie or Sue Cook.

Success is relative to where you are that is true. Perhaps Keys should tell us what success Gianfranco has had relative to the clubs he has been at as manager????

Not as surprising as you would think as they always do well against other Asian teams, think their best result is first class series wins against Pakistan however beating Bangladesh in a one dayer is still good.2399 wrote:Afghanistan pull off landmark upset...
